Teeth whitening strips

Everythingaches · 26/10/2024 23:53

Which ones?

I put a bit of bicarbonate of soda on my toothbrush along with normal toothpaste. Super cheap and works well.

Crest are good. The strong ones from America are the best.

I get a treatment called “airflow” once a year at the dentist which is about £90 - it’s like a jet wash sand blast thing and removes any staining. I drink a lot of tea and end up with stains between my lower front teeth, this removes them anc makes my teeth look really bright white. It might not be great if you have naturally yellow enamel though.

Crest. Others are not as effective imo

For the same price my dentist charges for tooth whitening I could fly to the USA and visit Walgreens and stock up on ALL the Crest whitening strips there! I think you can get them from dodgy suppliers in the U.K. though- not sure where.

Tha American ones are banned here because they can cause damage to teeth and gums.

I agree that airflow is great, but £90! I pay £15 a time. And now I come to think of it, I’m sure the hygienist said a lot of practices over charge..

I think whitening depends on whether it’s just staining, or you have yellow enamel. I have the latter, and so I’ve had the casts and gel treatment (which is horrible, btw, but quite effective). My practice does it half price if you have a monthly plan, which made it a bearable cost.

I’m currently trying charcoal toothpaste for low level staining, lots of brushing and flossing. Makes a difference..

Oh gosh, really? I am an NHS patient in my surgery which is about 80/20 private/NHS, so I guess I do okay out of them overall, and I really do like my dentist which I think is half the battle. I had a checkup with my NHS dentist then the airflow with the hygienist last week, and it was £93 including an x-ray. I’m quite lucky that I have very white teeth, just a nasty little tea addiction!

I’ve had Enlighten whitening done at the dentist and buy a top up syringe about once a year. But my husband (who has lovely teeth) uses crest strips and gets similar results.

We are often in the US, so he stocks up there, but I believe you can buy them cheaply on Amazon now.

allmycats · 28/10/2024 20:56

Please bear in mind that if you have white fillings in your teeth they will not turn the same colour as your actual teeth and it will look different

NippyCrab · 28/10/2024 21:27

I had moulds made at the dentist and was given Phillips Zoom gel. Effective but you do have to persevere and you can get sensitivity. I've read the crest strips are brilliant, I buy replacement gel from Home Teeth Whitening and they've always been great. They sell the strips and I'm tempted to try them, I'm not sure if they are the same strength as the US ones though and it doesn't state the peroxide level. There's also The White Smile I've had an order from there and they are legitimate sellers too. X

Thanks, I have caps on my two front top teeth so not sure if strips would work.

No, they won’t!

Everythingaches · 31/10/2024 22:08

Won’t do that then!
