How to style this

I'm a size 14, wide (ish) hips, with a tummy. 5 ft 8. Large chested
My style is varied, casual mixed with a tiny bit of dressing up (so a sequin skirt with band tee kind of look)
I love the skirt, and think the ruched effect would be forgiving. I was thinking of a wrapped body suit but worried about the tummy aspect.
My go to top would be a wrapped sweater but the ones I have are thicker, and I think thinner ones would be better, but...the tummy aspect again.
And opaque black tights are OK, right?

have you bought it yet?

i think there will be much much nicer skirts out there that will fit your body shape

Thanks for the reply. No, not bought it yet...sitting on my hands! Is it because of the fabric or the style? I'm so unsure about satin!

Do they do free Returns?

Think the only option with something quite specific is to go ahead and order it with the plan you will definitely send it back if you feel you can’t style it.

It looks very dated and 80s. Not because of your body shape. On anyone.

runwithme · 24/10/2024 09:29

Hmm, no ones replied with a definitive "yes, get it ", and no, no free returns. I'll give it a swerve and look for something safer! Thanks all!

I don't feel comfortable wearing it.

fabric and style

Everyone's tastes are different so if you like it buy it.

I'd wear a plain black tshirt or jumper probably with a slash neck, black tights and boots.

I have a sequin mini skirt I wear with a black tshirt or black slash necked jumper depending on if I'm dressing it up or down.

It looks like you've already decided against but there were loads of ruched skirts around 2010 (or was it a bit earlier?). The main differences, as I remember, were that they were mostly below the knee and in a jersey fabric. The wisdom at the time was that they were very forgiving of bellies although with hindsight I'm not so sure about that.

Anyway for a while I wore them a lot (except as I've said, mine were longer and stretchy) and always with a looser fitting top. I'm dubious about the satin fabric as it looks very shiny and clingy. Is there any stretch in it?

One reason I got fed up with them (other than sheer boredom of which I'm often guilty) was that they rode up a lot, which was annoying enough when it was midi length but, if it's already above the knee, I think there's a strong risk it could end up half way up your arse.

Not flattering at all!
