40th Birthday- pub - flat chested

I’ve seen lots of great suggestions on here so thought I’d give it a go. It’s my 40th soon. I’m having a party in a pub. I’m very flat chested but have a large tummy from being very overweight as a child, it’s loose hanging skin. I suit dresses that are skater style as I’m very slim around my torso and they skim nicely over my awful tummy but all the dresses I find that flatter my shape are too formal. I want to look hot/chic/sexy but also not feel like a tool wearing something ott in a pub! My friends would wear leather look jeans/leggings and tight shirt type stuff which on their bodies look amazing but would do nothing for me!

happy for any suggestions

basically about an 8 on top and 10/12 tummy. Day to day I wear jeans and t-shirts.

I love the v neck nobody’s child. I’m worried about the v neck being too low for my shape but I might order it and see. Also really like the Burgundy nobody’s child. Thanks for the ideas

I haven’t come with ideas. Was just having a look. I really like the dress with the deep v op. With a flat chest, a deep v is good. A shallow v is not. The burgundy would also be a good option because it is wide on the shoulders and puffed sleeves to give balance. A boat neckline is also good.

Have you tried spanx? They’re pretty good. I have a tummy overhang after a lot of stomach surgery. You can pull up a fair amount in them. I have the the shorts (underwear ones), some knickers and some coated leggings.

Ruched waists are good for hiding that area I find

Not skater style, but something like this or this

Thank you for your message. I will have a try with spanx I’ve tried cheaper versions and they tend to roll down as I’m a lot smaller under my bust, but I do find sometimes the branded stuff does the job.

I love a boatneck. It’s really flattering on me. So fully agree with you there!

How about something like this OP? Dressy with silver accessories or you could go for more of a casual rock/biker look with black boots? Such a bargain! www.houseoffraser.co.uk/brand/biba/biba-mesh-tunic-dress-577144#colcode=57714499

Or this? (I wasn't even looking for a dress but now I've seen how good the Biba sale is, I might be getting this one for myself!) https://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/brand/biba/biba-balloon-sleeve-dress-577146#colcode=57714603

Just a word on Nobody's Child - I have been finding of late that their mini dresses are just too short. I am 5'6' and they are right up my bum, and I enjoy a short dress. Such a shame because they are gorgeous dresses.

IlooklikeNigella · 24/10/2024 14:33

I think those biba dresses are a really good call

I’m the same height as you and not keen on showing too much leg! thanks.

I’m keen see if I can find something to go with the new look top as I can see that looking really good on some people with the right skirt/trousers and accessories. Also like the black biba one

No helpful suggestions, just want to say it's YOUR 40th birthday party. So you can't be OTT😊wear whatever you find fabulous and flattering, and have a brilliant time.

Amwl · 24/10/2024 14:59

This might be way off mark but as you have mentioned loving a boat neck - I really want to buy this dress!

Crikey, would it kill them to crack a smile?! They don't exactly exude the joy of getting a new frock, do they?!

The reason I thought of the new look top is because of what you said in your OP about your friends and leather look jeans or leggings. I think it would look quite nice with those and a pair of heels, and will flatter you in all the right places.

A deep v neck really does look great with a small chest. Have you considered a jumpsuit? They are very flattering in the right cut.

My small chest goes hand in hand with a rather bony front and deep v necks look awful - if I can even find one that sits nicely across my bust i.e not gaping.
I look much better in high neck, boat or halter. I have good arms.
