Do shorter (knee length upwards) dresses with a bit of shape actually exist this year?

Has anyone successfully located any shorter length dresses with a waist to them this year? This is the shape that suits me, but fashion seems to be in anti-phase and it's either short, oblong tunics or midi and maxi dresses.

For winter, so preferably longer sleeves, not too low in the neck. I'm 48 and size 12. I don't wear patterns (but could maybe be convinced)

I did find one, which is lovely but when I went to get it in another colour it had sold out. Here is the sort of thing: www.poetryfashion.co.uk/product-RE73-POEDS/colour-c-dark-teal/dresses-skirts/fine-cotton-cord-pleatfront-dress.htm

If anyone has come across one of these elusive items?

Black Cord Rigga Mini Dress

Navy Cord Balloon Sleeve Patras Mini Dress

These seem somewhat similar!

cromwell44 · 22/10/2024 22:21

Bumping as I’d love to find dresses like the one in the OP. Mini dresses, not so much.

cromwell44 · 22/10/2024 22:48

This one. Also rather expensive but great for a special occasion.

I’ve just ordered this from Monsoon, and they do almost identical in denim. Looks like it could be perfect A/W dress

Thank you! It looks like only the posh shops are doing them this year.
I love the Wrap dress and had already thought of that for Christmas.

I feel like I've seen loads at more of a mid range price point?!

Also look on M&S - you can filter dresses by length and 192 knee length dresses come up!

New look do a style similar for the cheap as chips option. I bought one last year and 2 more this year wear with tights and boots and various cardigans or jackets. Wash well and no iron required.

It’s very fatface! I love their dresses and have seen lots like this style op

That is a great dress! Out of my budget sadly.

love this, what size did you get @FloralMoon ?

Pluvia · 23/10/2024 10:33

Just ordered two of the Monsoon dresses — a shorter one, but also the longer denim one. Thanks for finding them.

DieDreiHexen · 23/10/2024 10:50

@FloralMoon I've got that dress on denim from last year and it's really nice. Sadly, charcoal doesn't work on me or I'd be all over a warm jersey option.

Don't you have one like that from a previous year?

Sorry to be a pain but this business of having new clothes every season is not good for the environment or the badly treated staff who make them.

cromwell44 · 23/10/2024 11:36

I like the OP's idea of a more fitted dress. So many of the shorter dresses are either smocks or have flounces around the hem. I like the top half of the Whitestuff dress shared by @chalkyc2 but the flounce at the hem spolis it for me. i might give it atry to check on the amount of flounce.

JWhipple · 23/10/2024 13:48

Search on vinted. You can filter for brand, condition, colour and material and I think dress type/length. I've had stuff from brands I'd never usually look at because of cost.

Animatic · 23/10/2024 13:54

Usually Maje-Sandro-Claudie Pierlot make those every year

MidnightMusing5 · 23/10/2024 17:11

M and s, and I think TU Sainsbury’s have something similar

Do shorter (knee length upwards) dresses with a bit of shape actually exist this year?

That looks like a potato sack!

PranklessHarm · 23/10/2024 20:49

It's very similar in shape to what the op is looking for though. I'm not saying I don't like the type of dress that OP is looking for. I'm not saying I don't like the style that OP is looking for, just that the expensive dress is very similar in shape to what the op is asking for.

They both look smock like to me on shape. It's just the expensive one is a nicer colour.

Nobodys child? I had to sew the v on this as it's very low, but lots of cord there in shorter lengths This? This? This is knee length on me but I am 5ft, might well be too short for you!

Oh sorry, I didn’t actually click the link in the op, just read the op and thought she wanted something fitted. That looks like a potato sack as well 🫣

FinanceTrustFund65BlueEyes · 23/10/2024 22:09

I think the pleating on the OP's dress gives it more 'shape' than the alternatives with gathered waists though.

Are there any other dresses without the gathers out there?

mdinbc · 23/10/2024 22:54

If you go to Boden and filter by mini, all their dresses have waist shaping, and they are not really mini being just above the knee.
