Do any of the wash in wash out toners (non permanent) actually work on greying hair?

Salt and pepper hair here..all natural as I stopped dying it 6 years ago. It's ok but often looks a bit dull.
On a whim I got a superdrug colouring conditioner and popped it on my hair. The results were... interesting! As in the white streaks at the front became a startling shade of 'You've been Tango-d' orange. One wash with head and shoulders and some purple conditioner later and it's now a much more acceptable 'golden tinge'
Obviously I do not want orange hair, but...other than the white at the front, it actually cheered my hair up quite a bit... I hate to say it but I look younger where the dull greys blend throughout, they are mostly a light caramel colour at the mo.

I am torn as to whether to colour my hair again..as in properly by a hairdresser, because my hair is in very good condition and I'm growing it and I have no idea whether I should 'go blonde' (I have sallow skin and that might be awful) or whether to ask for some highlights that blend the grey.
I thought I might try a few different 'wash in wash out' ones first to see... My hair is predominently mid brown underneath with the grey just on the top and front..
Has anyone tried any of the non permanent/semi colourants that actually DO blend the grey a bit?
If so please give me some recommendations !!

I use Glaze once a week and it covers all the greys, my hair is dark brown, so it means I'm not yet having to make a decision about going grey

Bleach London Fade to Grey shampoo turns white hair grey with a purpley tinge - great stuff

I like the super drug wash in wash out colour. I used to hide grey roots in between using a semi-permanent dye.
