Help me find some shoes like the Sezane Paula babies? (But cheaper)

Obsessed with and in love with these shoes. The colour, the heel height, the double strap.

But they are too expensive for me. PLUS, read several reviews saying the quality is actually quite poor.

Any fashionistas here have any similar rec? I don't mind paying up to £100.

I think I saw something similar, no doubt synthetic on Joanie

kluesme · 17/10/2024 15:02

I have seen ones like this on asos and next

I had to smile at those.
I had some like that when I was a young teen.

I won't say exactly how long ago that was but it was decades.

Fashion really does go round and round.

@CornishCreamTeas Yes, my 70 year old mum said the exact same thing! Fashion is so cyclical

I had a pair (in camel) from MaxMara, about 10 years ago. Oh, how I wanted to love those shoes. But they cut into my toe joints at just the wrong point, and the combination of slingback strap and blocky heel meant the weight was all wrong, so the heel sort of click-clacked, and if wore them with socks or tights to mitigate the painful toe box, I slid around like an idiot.

So while I love the Sezane shoes, they will be somebody else's this time around. My MaxMara ones ended up in our local British Red Cross. I hope you have better luck with yours, OP!

I really like the look of these shoes but what would you wear them with? Would they go with wide leg trousers? Just skirts or dresses?

@Superwomann Yep, everything pretty much! Wide leg trousers, long skirts, shorter skirts, dresses etc

Thanks all! Found these which I love: https://www.jonak-paris.com/p/babies-with-open-backs-9332.html

Quality reviews seem to be decent too

They're £140, which is only £20 cheaper than the Sezane ones, so you might as well get the ones that you love.

ZaZathecat · 17/10/2024 21:55

Some burgundy ones from New Look

I'm curious... are 'babies' a style of shoe, or is that just the name of that particular shoe? I've never heard the term before. I would call these Mary Jane slingbacks if I was googling...

They are very pretty, especially in the burgundy.

Funny. I'd never heard of Jonak until today and then your thread pops up!

I tried those Sézane ones and they were cripplingly uncomfortable so sent them back! Not what you are asking, I know…

I've got these, I don't usually buy shoes from NL but in person they looked really nice quality, and I was surprised at how comfy they are! I have worn them quite a bit in the past few weeks and still look brand new and no sore feet! Think they were 25% off too, usually vouchers floating around.

I remember being thrilled that they were slightly grown-up shoes! Black leather. Only one strap but otherwise the same.

There are loads of similar types around. Mary Janes, with a strap and sling back.

I got these as a Sézane dupe - only a tenner now !

Named babies because of the baby heel. Not sure if Sezane coined the term or if it’s used more widely but there you go - you can add it to your fashion lexicon!

@buzzheath those shoes are gorgeous.

Just noticed some of the double buckle ones in Oliver Bonas yesterday but they are not quite the same-not slingback but still lovely.
Linked this pair but there are lovely velvet and some with heels.
My giant feet and thick ankles mean I will always admire from afar...

That type of shoe is called “babies” in French. Sarenza and Zalando have a whole section devoted to them.
