I need help working out a coat solution for a trip I have coming up in November.
It’s likely to be both cold and (very) rainy, possibly snowy.
The coat I usually wear in winter is a short showerproof puffer, warm enough for English winters.
I also have a properly waterproof shell jacket for when it’s raining.
I had thought I could just wear the waterproof over the puffer and be warm and dry, but the puffer is too bulky and the waterproof won’t zip up over it.
So my options now seem to be buy a new winter coat that’s properly waterproof, but they seem very expensive, and unlikely to get much use after the trip.
Or buy a thin jacket to go underneath the waterproof. Fleece? Down? They seem expensive too. Do you get what you pay for or are they all pretty similar? Worried I will end up cold anyway if they are thin.
Or just wear an extra woollen jumper? But then if I’m too hot, I’ll have to faff around taking things off rather than just unzip.
Is there a better solution I haven’t thought of? I don’t want to spend more than I need.
Or any recommendations for thin but warm little jackets?
