Wedding MUAs

Hi! Sorry if this is the incorrect thread for this - but I am looking to book a hair & make up artist for myself and my mother for my wedding reception. I’ve received quotes from £350 way up to £850 which is just crazy!

I’ve found a lady who I quite like and she’s quoted me £400, so that works out £200 each for my mum & I for make up and hair (without trials).

She’s asked for a 50% deposit. Is this common practice for MUAs?! I thought that was a bit steep. My florist has only requested 10% and it was my wedding dress & cake that asked for 50% too!

I paid a lot less (I think it was more like 10%), but I don't suppose it really matters, as long as you get a contract stating that if she cancels she refunds it all. Maybe worth doing a trial before you pay the deposit if it's a bit steep? Most people will be booking hair and make-up for a lot more people (usually bridesmaids too), so maybe she's charged a higher deposit as it's a smaller booking?

I’m paying £140 in total for hair and makeup - thought that was expensive nenough!

Does it really matter? If you aren’t going to cancel then it’s the same either way.

Find someone who you really like instead of quite like and then the deposit won't feel as much of an issue.

Where are you based? I wish I could pay that price instead

I am going to a wedding in Northamptonshire, Idon’t live there, it was booked for me. She’s doing the bride, mother of the bride , maid of honour and me. Never had it done before so don’t know that these sort if things normally cost.
