Wedding Reception Dress - help!

So I've been invited to a wedding reception and have absolutely no idea what to wear!

It's been YEARS since I was at a wedding, so feel totally out of the loop. Friends have said just wear what you would to a wedding, minus the fascinator etc, others have said dress as if going to a party.

I've spent hours on Next and a bunch of other websites but can't find anything that I think is appropriate.

If you have any advice at all on what is appropriate to wear at a reception, please help!

Budget? Clothes size? Style preferences? Wedding context - season, location, culture, etc?

Varies so much - what's the venue for starters, Scottish castle is different to posh hotel and different again to a hired hall

I quite like some of the bodycon/one shoulder dresses that I've seen. Something that covers my stomach would be amazing.
The wedding is in just over two weeks in a very chilly Scotland!

Honestly, there will be a lot of variety, especially at the evening reception, so I wouldn’t stress about getting it right or wrong. Find something that makes you feel good and wear that.

Phase 8 wedding guest edit. Is there anything there which appeals? Even if it’s not perfect, it might help you work out what to ask people to help you find.
