Cannot make head nor tail of what colours I am....

Hi All, I have looked and done the questions on line and the like but still dont know what are my colours! Can anybody help please or am I being really dim with those online sites.

Im quite pale, natural ash/light long blond hair, green eyes, blue to light green veins, prob a bit paler as I live overseas but wear factor 50 on face and arms, rest of me never sees the light of day (wear rash vests etc in pools, I do tan if not covered up).

Im in the UK for a few months and need some winter clothing, jumpers, trousers etc. I do tend to lean towards very bright clothes, mix of plain and patterned I dont shy away from colour at all.

Oh and I'm 58! Any suggestions please🤔

I was the same (and am the same colouring as you). I bought this book, used, from Amazon and all became clear.

Thanks for that quick reply!

Which book please?

Which book, @Cuppachuchu? I am very different, but completely inconsistent colouring and I've just given up trying to work it out. Maybe I'll go to an expert some day.

Cuppachuchu · 14/10/2024 11:06

Just trying to attach a photo, bear with.......

GettingStuffed · 14/10/2024 11:10

It sounds like you're either a spring or summer depending on you underlying skin tone.

There is one season that rarely comes up and that's neutral. I'm one as I have strong autumn and summer colours but neither dominates.

IchiNiSanShiGo · 14/10/2024 11:11

Try doing the colour profile quiz on the Kettlewell Colours website, that should give you a good idea.

It's called colour me beautiful by Veronique Henderson & Pat Henshaw. It's on Amazon for about £15, but I got it used for £3 ish. Sorry, can't manage to copy link 🤷

Rumforme · 14/10/2024 11:16

Do you suit muted pastel colours like sky blue and light sage green? You sound like you could be a soft summer.

sueelleker · 14/10/2024 11:20

Colour Me Beautiful is a bit basic-it inly divides by seasons. I'm Autumn, but a lot of it didn't apply to me. I did the questionnaire, and found I'm actually a Soft Autumn; which is far more accurate. I think they divide each season into 3-Soft, True and Deep.

Cuppachuchu · 14/10/2024 11:24

So, it doesn't split things into seasons, it's light, deep, soft, clear, neutral and sub types of each, depending on your tones. Gives colour palettes for each. Really straightforward. There's also some useful extra chapters on body shapes, proportions, capsule wardrobes make up and personal style.

Colour Me Beautiful haven’t used seasons for years. They work on tonal analysis so a person could be one of 24 different options.

NewspaperDoll · 14/10/2024 15:09

Do you have a jumper or top that when you’re wearing it and glimpse yourself in a mirror, you think you/your skin looks great? If so, and you show us the colour, it’ll give us a clue.

Alltheleavesonthetreesarefalling · 14/10/2024 18:27

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply.

Colour me beautiful way back in the day I went to a 'party' to have colours done, not one of the colours I liked! I Had the book, and bits of fabric and still could not make out colours that suited me.

In my mind (?) I do suit white/off white/light cream and mid blues, but thats maybe because I like those colours. Sludge colours like greens and browns I really dont like, which came up when I did the Kettlewell quiz and came up an Autumn!

Maybe I'm between 2 colours being in the sun and in the UK seasons!

.....Or maybe I'm just not that observant of what colours suit me and go with what I like, its ever so confusing!

Can you post a photo of your skin at least? It's make things easier

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 14/10/2024 18:32

Please can you do me. I always struggle. I think I'm a spring Red suits me but I look terrible in hot pink
Peach and coral looks nicer in me than pinks and lilacs.
I suit Lemon and pale to mid
Blues.
I have mid brown eyes and dark blond hair I burn easily but do tan eventually.

@Cuppachuchu hi, can I ask which book it is, there are two on ebay with the same authors, one book has a lady in a green dress, and another book has 4 ladies on the cover, thanks

The Kettlewell "quiz" is definitely nonsense.

Alltheleavesonthetreesarefalling · 16/10/2024 09:10

Well I have come to the conclusion after reading other sites etc. that really I will just get what colours I like, so ordered some soft cream jumpers, mid blue thicker tops and a burnt orange (may order the sage green) arran longline cardigan for starters and see how it goes from there!

Deathraystare · 17/10/2024 12:59

What colour are your veins? Blue(cool) or greeny blue (warm). Any moles - if a dark brown you are cool, if a warm brown you are warm!

lemonlavendar · 17/10/2024 13:26

Kettlewell has a section that tells you your colours. A few questions to answer, and it's done.

It really isn't I am very pale skinned with pink undertones and I look positively washed out in some tones of some colours. I remember trying on my sister's ivory wedding dress which looked stunning on her (you would not think we were sister, completely different hair and eye colour) I ended up wearing a very pale coffee coloured dress for my own wedding.

You can like blue but some tones of it make me look dead and grey, others make me look alive. I just know what suits me and I tend to shop in person rather than online. Plus if you opened my wardrobe you can see that I don't have a rainbow of colours, I tend to stick to autumnal colours plus navy and soft whites. If I wear black I tend to wear a bright coloured cardigan to lift it as my skin is so pale. I like olive greens, mustard yellows, burgundy. I don't know what that makes me but I look positively healthy.

Floisme · 17/10/2024 15:54

I don't think it's entirely nonsense - I definitely prefer how I look in certain colours (or rather certain shades of certain colours). But it's just my opinion and, while there was a time when I took it far more seriously, I no longer believe there's anything underpinning it. The fact that I can't see it in other people confirms that view for me.

Even if I'm wrong and it really is some kind universal wisdom, I get dressed for my own enjoyment, not anyone else's so I'd rather pick colours that please me rather than other people.

LoobyDoop2 · 17/10/2024 18:57

I don’t think it’s nonsense up to the point they start associating personality traits with colouring, which is so clearly just a load of total bollocks it’s either laughable or actually offensive.
