I’m going to be wearing this pale khaki/olive dress soon to an occasion. It’s a posh occasion but this is as posh as I get! Which belt looks best? I’m trying not to spend more money if poss!
Thanks 😀

Not keen on either. The first pic looks like a karate outfit and the second one is just odd. The green bag isn't good and neither is the pink thing on your wrist.

To be honest, the colour is just very drab. I know you don't like florals and you definitely don't have to wear florals but there must be nicer dresses out there. The current trend for jewel colours could work better for you. You said you want orange shoes, so you do like colour! This dress doesn't really do much for you. You said you don't want tailored but then you clinch the dress with a belt? I think the problem is that it's an oversize dress that isn't meant to be worn with a belt which is why you're struggling to get it to work. Sorry OP I'm not sure what to suggest for this one. I'd really go and look for another outfit. Just because it's a wedding doesn't mean you have to wear a dress.

Thank you. I don’t like tailored, I like big & drapey & the belt still shows this I think. I don’t like dresses in bright/jewel colours but I do like to add a bit of colour but this is usually a headband/bag or shoes! I know it sounds like I’m being difficult but it’s just what I like! My list for what I don’t like is big.

i just literally can’t find a dress I like, I’ve been looking for absolutely ages!

I say embrace the geisha vibes, OP! Be bold!

I like the widest obi belt but I agree the dress is in danger of swamping you. I do wish the obi belt was gold or bronze, I am not sure the emerald tones with the khaki and adding your orange shoes in the mix will take it all into clashy (and not in a good way).

I love clashy but yes adding tangerine shoes might not be good!

If you like geisha vibes go with an obi belt, but that particular one is not great, wrong shade of green in my book. The other belt shape is preferable to me, but a plain shade would work better, and maybe a little wider too,

It’s just literally just because these are the only belts i have & because I rarely wear belts, I didn’t want to buy another! I think I need to have only one bright about the outfit so muted shoes or muted belt.

Agree about nixing the tangerine shoes, risks straying onto Su Pollard's turf otherwise, and there's only one Su.

I think you’ll look fine, but it’s always painful to see someone saying they struggle to find anything they like. Do any of the brands carried by YBD speak to you, @StarDolphins?

YBD dresses

Or

Karolina Ozolinsiute?

Or, actually - you might love the Rendez-vous curation, though the brands they stock are definitely not MN-approved prices:

Rendez-vous dresses

Nor are Cawley (mentioned above) or

Egg

but they might make you happy!

Gocompared · 13/10/2024 17:40

I love the dress and think it will work with a belt but not either of those two

it seems a shame to have a great stand out dress then ruin it because you didn’t want to spend a bit extra on a belt

Loads of cool cheap belts in charity shops or on line

Im trying to work out what colour though. I’d say belt needs to match shoes here because the dress is already quite full on (in a good way!)

That pale mint green is actually quite hard to match with. I’m not convinced about gold. Definitely not red or black.

Copper could be a shout?

Doggymummar · 13/10/2024 17:50

I think green and orange are great together, I was complimented a couple of weeks ago for the combination. Green dress and orange accessories in this case. It's hard to tell with it not being ironed and dressed properly but it will look stunning,

Thank you! I’m not struck on the first 2 but I like some on the last 2, rendez-vous & egg. It’s not that I only like big, lots of material type dresses I don’t think, I just don’t know! I think I’m quite rigid in what I like maybe. I don’t wear a lot of dresses anymore so it’s been tricky finding one that I like & I do like the one I got. In every day life, I love what I wear & don’t care or even give it a thought what other people think but it’s different at my friends wedding, I want to look nice for her.

Thank you, I thought about black but I don’t have a black belt & the only black shoes I have are converse with a red heart on the side🤣

But yes, I love this dress so have to make it work. I will look on vinted, thank you.

agree🤣 I think if I got orange shoes I’d just forget the belt completely as it’s too much stress!

I love the green sash belt though, it looks ace.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 13/10/2024 18:19

Love the dress.

The green belt looks best.

I have a wide platted bronze belt that would cope with the orange velvet shoes. My first thought was 'Are you local?' 😂

Try the thin metallic belt from your photograph of the belt options. I think the outfit is really stylish, plus oversize is in, as are the big sleeves. If I saw you, I would think you had lovely taste. The green bag looks a bit plasticky and cheap, so I wouldn't add that.

It does and I think it needs a wide obi type belt.

Agree with JaneJeffer. It doesn't look like a karate belt. And even if it did - so what?
