I’m going to be wearing this pale khaki/olive dress soon to an occasion. It’s a posh occasion but this is as posh as I get! Which belt looks best? I’m trying not to spend more money if poss!
Thanks 😀

The first looks a bit fancy dress imo. The second is better, but not with that bag. Are you absolutely sure about the dress?

Growlybear83 · 13/10/2024 15:12

I think the green sash makes it look like you're wearing a judo costume.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/10/2024 15:13

Just zoomed in. The second belt is printed? Must admit that puts me off.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 13/10/2024 15:16

Certainly not the red, and i dont think the bronze is wide enough. Though I think bronze is the-best colour to accessorise with.

Yes, it’s literally the only dress I have found that I like & I’ve been looking for ages☹️ no i definitely won’t be having that bag.

I prefer the second one. I really don't like the green sash thing

StarDolphins · 13/10/2024 15:21

What about brown?

I love that dress OP! Absolutely beautiful! I love an oversized fit too - although tends to be quite divisive as lots of people prefer much more fitted. I am not a massive fan of the green sash personally. I think a plain brown or no belt....? How big is it without? A floaty moment can look lovely imo.

LibertyCaps · 13/10/2024 15:33

I like the green obi, (not sure why everyone is calling it a sash), it's a good strong look.

Wear that!

I love it too. And I like the green sash.

It reminded me of this. Which is beautiful.

The dress is nice enough but it looks too big. I don’t like any of those belts for pairing with it, sorry. What shoes will you be wearing?

That’s the style of it, it’s a size 8 & I’m a 10! It’s just got loads of material! just really love this dress. I don’t like floral or tight or tailored anything unfortunately so if I didn’t wear this dress & got something that I didn’t like, I wouldn’t feel nice.

It's meant to be oversized.

OP stick to your guns. The dress with the green obi/ sash looks great. Don't tone it down.
It's one of the nicest wedding guest dresses I've seen on here in a while.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/10/2024 15:42

Yes, I realise it’s meant to be oversized but I still think it looks too big.

It’s a lovely colour and will certainly stand out from the Hobbs florals etc.

Thank you! I could try it with the brown but I am wanting some orange velvet shoes so will see what it looks like. I actually could try it without any belt I guess, it wasn’t ironed in the photos & I had my jeans on underneath too!

Thank you, that’s lovely of you to say.

Both a bit odd. First looks like a geisha
Exactly what I thought!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/10/2024 16:42

First dress giving me geisha vibes. Prefer wider bronze or gold belt with the dress.

I personally dislike putting belts with dresses as it can go so wrong unless you know what you’re doing with both the dress and belt.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 13/10/2024 16:44

Not keen on either. The first pic looks like a karate outfit and the second one is just odd. The green bag isn't good and neither is the pink thing on your wrist.

To be honest, the colour is just very drab. I know you don't like florals and you definitely don't have to wear florals but there must be nicer dresses out there. The current trend for jewel colours could work better for you. You said you want orange shoes, so you do like colour! This dress doesn't really do much for you. You said you don't want tailored but then you clinch the dress with a belt? I think the problem is that it's an oversize dress that isn't meant to be worn with a belt which is why you're struggling to get it to work. Sorry OP I'm not sure what to suggest for this one. I'd really go and look for another outfit. Just because it's a wedding doesn't mean you have to wear a dress.

LostOnTheWayToManderley · 13/10/2024 16:51

I say embrace the geisha vibes, OP! Be bold!

I like the widest obi belt but I agree the dress is in danger of swamping you. I do wish the obi belt was gold or bronze, I am not sure the emerald tones with the khaki and adding your orange shoes in the mix will take it all into clashy (and not in a good way).

Purplecatshopaholic · 13/10/2024 17:00

If you like geisha vibes go with an obi belt, but that particular one is not great, wrong shade of green in my book. The other belt shape is preferable to me, but a plain shade would work better, and maybe a little wider too,

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 13/10/2024 17:08

It doesn't look like a geisha outfit. It's more like Jasper Conran dresses or Vigée Le Brun's portaits of Marie Antoinette with sashed taffeta dresses

TheLeadbetterLife · 13/10/2024 17:14

The dress is fab, and I also like it best with the green sash / obi. Very cool. I'd love to see a full length pic.
