Can I wear boots with this dress to a wedding!?

I’m going to a winter wedding in late November. I have found a dress I really like the look of but would it look completely wrong to wear it with tights and boots? And if not can anyone recommend some to me?

I never wear heels and winter weddings always throw up this issue for me! However I now have a toddler so really need practical footwear! I don’t mind a bit of a heel so long as it’s not narrow and not too high.

I could handle a low wide heel. What about something like this?

What about these silver shoes from Next? They're flat, with a block heel and the silver makes them dressy enough for a wedding.

Esska might have some possibilities?

Wouldn't wear boots to a wedding sorry.

The heels you've posted are lovely and would be ideal.

Take flip flops for the night time, no one gives a shit then

Or these ones!?

You said the wedding is late Nov, so I'd avoid anything open toed. Surely your feet would be freezing and even worse if it rains!
What about a neutral coloured wedge?

Gosh I’m so bad at this 🙈. So if I were to go with this dress and can handle a slight heel, should I wear tights with it and a closed toe? Or closed toe and no tights? I’m looking at block heels and think they might be the way to go

An advert for these popped up earlier esskashoes.com/products/lina-vegan-gunmetal esskashoes.com/products/lina-vegan-gunmetal]]]]

Penelope Childers and Air and Grace both have low block heeled sandals

HotCrossBunplease · 10/10/2024 20:06

Those Next shoes that @JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn posted would be perfect.

Up to you whether or not you wore tights, I would as I think shoes are more comfortable with tights underneath and you might appreciate the warmth you’d get even from sheer ones.

Can I ask where the dress is from? Sorry no help with footwear

I think these are a good suggestion, but they are not flat. You say yourself they have a heel, therefore they aren't flat.

Thanks so much everyone for all of your input and links. I’ve definitely got more of an idea now. I’m going to order the dress and a few different pairs of shoes and see what I think!

What are your boots like OP? I assume they're flat as you say you can't do heels.

edited as you have now replied. You could you wear flats like these: https://www.oliverbonas.com/accessories/gold-pearl-buckle-pointed-flat-mary-jane-shoes-367340#selection.color=1998

Edited

Those shoes are the nicest suggestion by several country miles.

That style, if not necessarily that particular pair, are everywhere. They're very pretty. Dune has a nice selection too.

That wasn't my point. My point was that they were described as both flat and with a heel, which isn't possible.

CorvusPurpureus · 10/10/2024 22:09

I would just be a bit cautious of Ever Pretty.

I bought a - perfectly nice, bit dull, but looked OK online, ticked the boxes - frock from them last year for dd1's fancy high school graduation (trust me here - overseas - frocky horrors definitely required Mum Wear).

It was a bit crap, in terms of fit, fabric & finishing.

I had a plan B & have since passed the Ever Pretty dress on to someone who can use it, but I have to say my expectations were fairly low & I was disappointed...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/10/2024 22:11

It will be winter, therefore nice boots will be fine. Sandals would be bonkers, unless the whole thing is in one venue that you’re taxi-ing to.

ballybooboo · 10/10/2024 22:20

I've always worn boots with dresses for winter weddings for decades now.
Fuck sandals when you're in a freezing church/castle/barn! (I guess more bearable in a heated hotel, but I'd still wear boots for comfort)

I'm actually considered quite stylish and when I think back to all the weddings I've attended I can not remember a single guests shoes, apart from one lady who was in her 20's and wearing stripper high heels, with the backs of her heels absolutely ripped to shreds and bleeding over her heels. I just wondered if she was on drugs because I'd be calling an ambulance in pain (joke) whereas she was happily chatting and dancing away. She later (sans heel) did the splits on the terrace at whatever 4 weddings 'naice' hotel the wedding was held, so maybe she was.

Moral of the story, your boots will be fab, you are not an idiot to wear fishing waders, trust your own judgement, and enjoy the wedding.

And asking MN for style advice, that ship sailed a long time ago, this place usually recommends crew clothing/white stuff and similar, so don't pay much heed.

bitsalty · 10/10/2024 22:21

Boots and tights would look awful with that dress!
If you don't wear heels then go for a pair of Mary Janes like the Oliver Bonas ones. Flat, comfortable but go well with a dress.

Shoemadlady · 10/10/2024 23:12

Have a look at the Esska gold shoe boot. They could look nice

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 10/10/2024 23:28

@Dawevi apologies if my description of 'flat with a block heel' didn't make sense to you. I was just trying to say they weren't 'heels' which the OP didn't want.

Doingmybest12 · 11/10/2024 00:02

I'd go for dark blue suede shoe boot (not the high heeled type) with thicker dark tights and silver accessories.
