Should I buy this coat? 😕

I tried on this coat yesterday and don't know if I should buy it so I'm posting here for honest feedback (link so I can delete later):

https://ibb.co/5WLRqc5

The pros:
It's not black (I have a black coat already albeit not amazing)
It's under £100
I can buy it now and be ready for when it turns cold which could be within weeks
It's partly wool
It's lined (this isn't always the case these days!)

The cons:
It's just 50% wool
I wasn't blown away by how it looked (i.e
no wow factor/"I must get this")
I don't know if the colour suits me
I'm in my forties and maybe it leans into my age?
Is it a bit dressing gowny? That's my worry with belted coats
Maybe it's just too outdated (I'm not someone who wears very fashionable/on trend clothes so maybe this doesn't matter)?

Please be brutally honest! Thanks 🙏

Awful cut, won't keep you warm and generally unflattering.

dudsville · 10/10/2024 10:20

Whether i like or or not didn't matter, but I think a new article of clothing should be a joy to wear. You aren't sure about it, you would be sure if you loved it. Also age with pp, don't buy "it'll do for now" unless you're in a real jam.

Misseditagain · 10/10/2024 10:21

Im not a fan of coats im a lover of oversized cardigans.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 10/10/2024 10:21

I quite like it too but I put maybe.

I’n unsure as to whether you’d get a charity shop or TK Maxx or other shop either.

I like the colour, pockets and shape on you.

Onemorepenny · 10/10/2024 10:25

I don't think it looks nice, the pockets are too large and bulky. Colour is nice. I'm not a fan of the lapels either. Personally I'd keep looking.

Milkmani8 · 10/10/2024 10:31

Unfortunately the pockets and stitching make it look cheap. If you want a good quality coat on a budget use eBay/Vinted and filter by wool and cashmere. I only ever do they and get all sorts of expensive coats for a fraction of the price. Always get them dry cleaned and it will stay in good condition for years.

totk · 10/10/2024 10:35

I love the colour and think it looks really nice on you, OP. However, if you're not particularly into it, I wouldn't buy it. Find something you actually like!

Overtheatlantic · 10/10/2024 10:38

Those pockets have no business being there.

coatwoat · 10/10/2024 10:54

Thanks everyone! 🙂
I think I'll pass in this one after all, I think the pockets swung it for me.

Thanks for the links; I've actually seen a couple I like. It's tricky buying coats online for me as I have wider shoulders so I have to be really careful with the oversized trend- I can just look massive as it's all hanging down from the wider frame of my shoulders if you see what I mean. I even can see this effect with this coat in the photo. It looks like I'm very straight up and down but I'm not, it's just that the coat is hanging down from my shoulders and not going in at the waist.

This alone says NO!

Appalonia · 10/10/2024 11:51

I like it, but then I know both that style and colour would suit me. Only you know if it suits you enough to want to buy it.

RuthW · 10/10/2024 12:20

Don't but it. It's awful.

VoteLabour · 10/10/2024 13:28

It suits you but I wouldn't buy it. if you have to ask, then you obviously have doubt. The pockets look wrong.

Doggymummar · 10/10/2024 13:43

I don't like it, but maybe styled rather than on top of a summer dress it may look ok. It wouldn't go with most of my autumn winter wardrobe does it go well with yours;

MounjaroUser · 10/10/2024 13:47

Whoever put those pockets on it needs to be shot at dawn.
