Confession time because I need to vent 😩

I’m an actor, or I’m trying to be. Things have been so quiet recently that I’m relying completely on my day job. The mantra in the business right now is “survive till ‘25”, because it’s just kind of dead out there.

I was recently talked into having “baby botox”.

Now, I’ve had botox before - just once, when the pandemic was still going and we were between lockdowns. I figured if I hated it then I’d be at home most of the time anyway and nobody would see me. And I did hate it. Within 48 hours my forehead had completely frozen. Worth noting that this was also supposed to be “baby botox”, which still allows movement but reduces the severity of your wrinkles. I guess I’m just very sensitive to it.

Well I was talked into giving it another go, and the doctor told me he was giving me such a tiny amount I’d probably need a top up in two weeks even if I still wanted to retain some movement (hahahahahahaha).

Surprise surprise, within 48 hours my forehead is once again frozen.

That was less than a week ago… and today I get a call from my agent telling me I have a TV audition. My first proper TV audition ALL YEAR, and I can’t move half my flippin face.

Next weekend I’m also going on a romantic break with my long distance boyfriend and I’m SO paranoid because he’s definitely going to notice. I’m such a bloody idiot. And he will know it. And I’ll miss out on this TV job. Never, ever again!!!

P.s.

If anyone knows any magic tricks to make it fade faster (it lasted 5 weeks last time) then I BEG YOU to tell me 🙏

My dh has no idea I've had botox. I didn't even think to tell him. He wouldn't care or notice!

Change something else, style your hair differently, a bright lipstick, new top or scarf and that will be what people notice and see and won’t notice the Botox.

That's actually a great idea. I'm so grateful for this website sometimes!

Just got another audition. This time for theatre.

2 auditions in 2 days, and both for decent jobs - I can't tell you how rare this is. I think this must be God trying to teach me a lesson for messing with my face🙃

Send me good vibes ladies!

Ah, no! Sending you best wishes for both audtions. You definitely have both jobs in the bag. Smile

Sending vibes that the vibrator / facial worked!

Good luck with the interviews.

Generally speaking I think Botox is far less noticeable (even when it's maybe a bit OTT) than fillers etc can be. I really doubt it's as bad as you think. And yeah I would agree with PP that it's highly unlikely that your DP will clock it - I've only had it done once (I had similar issues to you so never again!) and H didn't notice at all despite us living together (and it was - to me! - pretty noticeable).

Good luck with the auditions!

Cut yourself a fringe!

theemptinessmachine · 10/10/2024 16:41

It lasted 5 weeks? Cant have been very frozen ?

chrissycn · 10/10/2024 17:03

Get a microcurrent facial with someone who knows how to relax the frontalis muscle.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 10/10/2024 17:07

For the audition if you think you really can't hide the Botox affected area, you could come clean and swear you will never have Botox it, and assure them that you have a normally very expressive face. Your voice and body language will count as well. But first grow or borrow/steal a fringe! Hope it goes well.

Kristen Bell has not moved her forehead for over 10 years and she is still an expressive actress.
Take a look at how she manages to use her eyes instead. It’s quite impressive.

I’ve never noticed this… off to watch some of her stuff on Netflix for a tutorial.

Weight lifting!! It’s apparently why mine has never worked. Now I’ve the body of a Greek god but the face of a scrotum!

I have to disagree - I otherwise loved Nobody Wants This but I found the frozen upper half of her face a constant distraction.

When I had Botox they told me that if a patient has a bad reaction or is not happy, they advise them to use an electric toothbrush on the area to break it down.
They also advised against hot baths/showers as it will stop the Botox working as effectively - could be worth a trying that to see if it reduces the effects!
