Anybody else who is 5 ft 2 and has a horrendous time getting the right length /fit in trousers?

Just wondering if anybody experiences the same problems has me when getting trousers.

I find they are always too long even when I go for petite lengths.
They are also too wide baggy at the bottom and look terrible on me.

I do have quite short legs about a 25 and a half inside leg.
I can just about get away with a 27" inside leg with a heel.
I also always have to find a straight slim leg trouser which is not always that easy.
Does anybody else have this problem.

I am 5' and nearly half an ".
Oh yes.

mosschops30 · 22/04/2008 22:24

i think its a global problem. I have 32" leg but trousers in kookai or zara are made for people on stilts i think.

Buy what you like and get em shortened

melsy · 22/04/2008 22:25

oh god yes , drives me nuts. Although my inside leg is 27 I think , but I liek jeans and trews skimming the floor just. Ive just bought some lovely jeans from TOP shop but they have to be taken up as they dont do them in petites [frustated face].

nellyraggbagg · 22/04/2008 22:25

Yes indeedy. I am also 5' 2" with relatively long legs for my body - and "crop" trousers are pretty much full length on me (never mind crop - they look more like crap trousers on me).

If I buy "normal" length trousers and take them up, I find the hem is somewhere around the knee, which doesn't do much for a boot-cut shape.

In fact, I have abandoned trousers. I have also abandoned dresses - size 10-12 bottom and size 6-8 top just isn't catered for... which leaves me with, um, about three skirts and a lot of boring cardis!

melsy · 22/04/2008 22:27

oohh nelly I have the same problem ,and I stupidly through out my crop crop jeans by accident.

melsy · 22/04/2008 22:27

I always buy petite jeans, usually from next as they're the only place I can get them to fit. But having recently bought a new pair I discovered that I've either shrunk in height or they are making them longer. They are too long for me, even with my heeled boots on and I have to turn them up at the bottom.

Trousers I buy from Marks and Spencer, I get the short length but still feel that they are slightly to long.

Sometimes I wish I could grow just a few inches more then I would be ok for buying trousers.

nobodysfool · 22/04/2008 22:28

I'm 5 ft and an inside leg length of 28".
I have similar problems but have just found that M & Co do a petite range that fits me perfectly.Have you tried there?

hatwoman · 22/04/2008 22:31

I just assume that any pair of trousers I buy will need shortening. I don;t even look for ones the right length. adds a tenner to the cost of a pair of trousers but what else is a girl to do?

ghostfreak · 22/04/2008 22:32

Thats interesting DisplacementActivity

I didn,t realise that you could get trousers altered and still have the original hem attached.
That is whats always put me off having them altered losing the hem.
I will try M & Co nobodysfool.
The trouble is alot of shops petite length is 29 inches which is no good for me.

I have the same problem, inside leg is 28". Even petite ranges are hit and miss - some trousers are ok but others way too long still. And this is in the same shop! I still have a pair from Next I need to take up.
Principles used to be OK, but their trousers don't fit so well anymore. Monsoon have a petite range out now, but I haven't tried it. Topshop might be ok... if i could get their trousers halfway up my legs....

melsy · 22/04/2008 22:36

not heard of M&Co , link?

treelover · 22/04/2008 22:36

take up and hem the bottom. problem solved.

nobodysfool · 22/04/2008 22:37

28" length and 27"......any good?

cheesesarnie · 22/04/2008 22:38

same problem here.

meep · 22/04/2008 22:39

I've had some real disasters shortening trousers - they've ended up looking ridicuous because the knee/bit that flares out were all in the wrong place and I looked like some kind of 70's reject
I'm only 5' - tried some Monsoon ones on and they were quite good.

ghostfreak · 22/04/2008 22:39

I just hate losing the hem treelover also rubbish at sewing.
Thanks for the link nobodysfool

I bought the bootleg jeans and they fit really well by far the best ones i have ever bought.

scaryteacher · 23/04/2008 08:24

I get my jeans and some of my trousers for work from Lands End. They do a petite fit, and for some trousers will hem them for free to the length you require. I bought some of their jeans which were a 28" inside leg and a bit too short for me as I like mine longer, and need a 29" inside leg - the inch does make a difference.

They are US sizings so a 14 with them is a UK 16. They cut generously and have a any time no quibble guarantee, so if you buy something and hate it, you can send it back whenever you want. I live in Belgium, and the clothes here don't do it for me, so I buy most of my stuff at Lands End. Highly recommended.

Oblomov · 23/04/2008 08:31

I have a nightmare too @ 5' 1 and 3/4".
I find M&S short good.
Everything else is a disaster - they just don't look right.

5'2" here. I buy many trousers from the petite range at Banana Republic (American chain...sister to the Gap, but more fashionable...just opened a shop in London). Those don't need taking up.

I find UK clothes a nightmare, and just don't bother anymore.

eandh · 23/04/2008 08:52

M&S short length are a very good length on me even with flats on and I'm 5"1, in their jeans I get the 'on the waist' short bootcut ones £19.50 in dark denim but they do straight leg in there too

Dorotyh Perkins are hit and miss sometimes their short length fine othertimes I am treading on the backs of them
