Anybody else who is 5 ft 2 and has a horrendous time getting the right length /fit in trousers?

Just wondering if anybody experiences the same problems has me when getting trousers.

I find they are always too long even when I go for petite lengths.
They are also too wide baggy at the bottom and look terrible on me.

I do have quite short legs about a 25 and a half inside leg.
I can just about get away with a 27" inside leg with a heel.
I also always have to find a straight slim leg trouser which is not always that easy.
Does anybody else have this problem.

Starlight, I didn't realise that 5'3" was adverage. As I look around, it feels as though people are taller than thta. Especially the young girls. I call myself short, becuase I think I am short. But I do not see that as negative at all. I am totally comfortabel with my size.
I knew a lady who was really not, but it has certainly never bothered me.

meep · 23/04/2008 09:17

I have some Principles petite jeans on today - they do drag but are perfect with mid heeled Boots.

Agree - M&S short length tend to always fit.

I am also not "petite" - I am short and curvy (nice word for having eaten too many cakes!). There shoudl be a range of shorter length clothes for curvy women with bums and boobs!

bellavita · 23/04/2008 09:36

I have the same problem - 5ft.

Have just bought a pair of Monsoon petite trousers and I am in the process of shortening them.

SilentTerror · 23/04/2008 09:36

I am 5 ft 2 also but have the opposite problem!
Petite in marks are too short, some petite in Next too short also.Principles petite perfect length,Wallis petite too short!
Boden regular great on me after one wash!

meep · 23/04/2008 09:40

okay - can I also vent about jackets and dresses! How many times do you try on dresses and think - oh lordy I have bturned into a big fat heffer - only to realise that the waist bit of the dress is actually sitting (tightly) on your hips. And jackets - sleeves that are too long and waists in the wrong place - and once I get them to fit thsose bits I can't get them to do up round my boobs!

Mercy · 23/04/2008 09:41

I'm 5' 3" and can never find the perfect fot either, although Dorothy Perkins is usually about right.

eandh · 23/04/2008 10:14

littlelapin I bought them on your recommendation on a thread I started - I love them they fit so well and dont expose half my bum if I crouch down. I got 2 pairs but am on Weightwatchers at the mo and its going well (lost 5lb last week ) so going to take one pair back and swap for smaller size to motivate me to carry on

eandh · 23/04/2008 10:16

meep - I have given up on dresses they never ever fit properly (short, curvy, bingo wings arms and big boobs do not make dress shopping easy )

aefondkiss · 23/04/2008 10:23

I like topshop and river island petite trousers, though I do find it hard to find a style I like in river island just now, I am very short, not quite 5ft (which is something I really don't like admitting).

Monsoon petite got longer in the last year or so, their petite jeans are too long for me.

ranting · 23/04/2008 10:27

I'm 5ft2 but I have quite long legs, so I find petite just make my trousers look like they've had a row with my ankles but ordinary trousers tend to be miles too big around the waist. If I buy a smaller size then I can't get them over my hips. As a result I've become a bit of a whizz with trouser alterations.

Starlight - do you fancy coming into business with me to start a chain of short but curvy AND fashionable clothes shops?!

meep · 23/04/2008 13:27

sorry - I should have said: AVERAGE but curvy

SoMuchToBits · 23/04/2008 13:38

I'm 5'4". I find most petite ranges (e.g. M & S short) are about right. However, I also have the curvy problem - most trousers that fit round the hips and thighs are too big round the waist, and ones that fit round the waist are too tight round hips and thighs. I find too, that trousers often don't come far enough up on me - if they say "natural waist" they are actually some way below my natural waist.

The worst problem though, is that I can never buy something long-sleeved without it being at least 3" too long in the sleeves. I always have to get coats and jackets taken up, and knitwear I usually buy 3/4 length sleeves if I can - they are just about right on me. Some petite range tops have sleeves about the right length, but they are then invariably too short in the body.

OK, I am an abnormal freak with short limbs and a long body, but it does make buying clothes hard!

willali · 23/04/2008 14:31

Join the club - it's like looking for the holy grail isn't it!! M&S short length is just my first port of call for trousers but sometimes depressing on the style front, Principles Petite OK if you wear REALLY high heels, next Petite OK but not brilliant. I tend to stick with M&S jeans (per una stretch bootcut excellent), do "crops" in the summer ie ankle length or just stick with skirts which at my age doesn't matter if they are actually below the knee! My absolute find of the season was some petite skinny jeans in the Littlewoods Catalogue of all places which fit perfectly - however I rang to order a pair in every other colour (on the basis that I wouldn't find anything else that would fit so well EVER) to find they are all sold out

Jazzicatz · 23/04/2008 14:33

I have the same problem with ill-fitting trousers as I am 5'10". Nothing worse than trousers that are too short!!!

Starlight and Meep - Let me know when you open your shops! Had a nightmare with pregnancy clothes, apparently short people do not get pregnant!

I'm 5.2 but found that petite trousers didn't fit - I eventually realised that I am petite in terms of body length but not leg length.

Can recommend Next for a wide range of petite stuff in the Directory.

SmugColditz · 24/04/2008 09:07

I find petites too short usually. Next petites are fine, M&S petites are tiny.

I've entirely given up on crops, they look like pantaloons

gingerninja · 24/04/2008 09:21

yes, I'm 5 foot 1. I hate next petite they're a terrible cut. It's tedious having things taken up not to mention the added expense. Most shops don't stock enough of the smaller sizes. I'm a size 10 but they've always always run out of my size but are left with plenty of 14 plus. I can't understand why this doesn't tell someone something ie there are lots of short size 10 types.

I hate shopping and never feel very feminine because everything is always so big.

nellyraggbagg · 24/04/2008 09:25

Meep - I'm with you on dresses. I love dresses, but not when the boob-holder is sitting around my waist (Boden are the worst culprits for this!!!) Then the bit that's supposed to sit on my tummy is forming a strange bulge somewhere around my crotch. Deeelightful.
Petites don't fit me, ever. I have long arms, no boobs, no waist and a size 12 bottom. In fact, it's amazing that I ever get dressed in the morning!

SmugColditz · 24/04/2008 09:26

I do think that as shops load up on the 'normal' 14s, they should load up on the 'petite' 10s. Surely it stands to reason that short people are built smaller!
