Waterproof coat for under £100

Has anyone found a winter waterproof coat for under £100 that they would recommend?

Preferably knee length, a classic style that won’t date, and plain colours.

Must be properly waterproof and not ‘water resistant’ as I do a lot of walking and I’m tired of coats and jackets which leak like a sieve.

You won’t get proper waterproofing at that price I’m afraid. You want to look for labels that say 10000 or ideally 20000. 5000 will give some protection but only showerproof. I only buy fully waterproof with taped seams and would think I was doing well if I paid £200.

Look at cotton Traders. I think they do a waterproof coat at a more reasonable price. Alternatively try Vinted

I bought a Seasalt Janelle on sale for £70 about two years ago. Not stylish I guess but really a great waterproof. I guess you need one for the winter ahead. Lands End also has great sales.

decathlon or other outdoor shops often have what you describe.
maybe not stylish but functional.

I have this, it comes in and out of stock often. You’d need a liner or something under when it gets cold though.

My more expensive warmer, waterproof coat for full winter is an Aigle

Edited

I really like this in the khaki.

I really like this in the khaki.

It doesn’t have the crunchy sounding fabric that most waterproof jackets have 👌

@VesperLind would you mind linking to some with taped seams that are 10000 or 20000.

sorry to OP for hijacking your thread - I’m in separate need of fully waterproofed clothes as I am also sick of wearing waterproofs where I end up wet after a long dog walk in torrential rain

Look at the main outdoor brands - all the big names offer waterproof clothing but then click onto the product specification tabs to see the details. Also, some brands such as Seasalt offer well priced waterproof coats that are more all-purpose (although ugly!).

These are good but not lined. But at the price you could buy a nice fleece/cardi too.

Lands end "Squall" coats and parkas are warm and waterproof. Mine saw me through many kids football matches. Also Trespass, they do a lot of ski wear so fully waterproof.

I have just paid 85 pounds for a long lighthouse coat which is fully waterproof and I absolutely love it . Will try to find the name for you.

Outback from lighthouse clothing. I have it in the plum colour and it stood up to the recent deluges and looks good on. I love it !

I have waterproof coats from Trespass and Regatta. They are in that price bracket. I don't know if you'll find them stylish, but they are OK.

Also , you can treat some fabrics with Nikwax to make them withstand rain . I did that with a jacket from Tesco , and it made such an improvement.

stopthepigeonstopthepigeon · 15/10/2024 13:24

This is definitely waterproof. Don’t know it’s stylish but I don’t know how stylish a raincoat can be tbh. I’d say the chocolate colour (the one I have) does at least look smart.
