Smart casual plus size?

llamalines · 30/09/2024 17:53

I'm looking for smart casual outfits for a 3 day work event, I'm size 24.

The change in season has snuck up on me! I thought I had a load of nice stuff from last year but actually a lot of it hasn't lasted well and doesn't look smart enough for work anymore.

I haven't budgeted for this so it needs to be relatively cheap!

I'm badically round so anything with a waist doesn't really suit me. I suit shirt dresses, jumper dresses, long line jumpers. I don't really care about the latest trends. At size 24, anything that suits my round shape is good!

Can anyone help me find something?

A few things from ASOS Curve:

Top and skirt

Shirt

Tailored trousers

You should be able to find a few other things that will work for your event.

Have a look at Ambrose Wilson. They do a huge range of sizes in certain brands. There's 20% off too.

How about something like this. It's a great colour, cord and you would wear it time and again? You could wear it two of the days you are away. Add say a leopard print scarf one day. I always thing something like this is much easier than having to pair or match separates.

Ooh, thanks! I love this. I have similar ones from Fat Face which I love but I've worn them loads and they're looking too old and tatty for work now.

Very easy to wear, as you say.

They've got a shorter version and a tunic too which I've ordered.

The tunic was on sale, and there's a 25% off promotion on the website so it was very reasonable! Thanks!

Thanks, I like these - but on someone else! I'm too round for a waistline these days. Separates don't really work for me unless the top is longline / oversized / a tunic.

I'll have a look at what else they have...

How tall are you OP
When is it?
Do you want jeans or dress and thick tights?
Is it three outfits or three smart and three casual? Or did you need evening stuff too?
What shoes do you have?
What coat do you have?

Asda and Matalan are great at moment

I'm 5'6.

I'm after three smart-casual outfits. Dress and tights probably, although jeans might be ok the rest of the outfit makes them a bit smarter.

It's for next week! The weather's going to be about 15c and it's going to rain on and off.

Fingers crossed it arrives in time, I just bought this Joe Brown coat from Vinted.

Not sure about shoes. I do have some new fur-lined DMs I bought in a sale, but maybe it's not really cold enough to get them out yet? My lovely boots I usually wear are looking a little worse for wear, I may need to buy new ones.

I didn't think of Asda or Matalan, I'll have a look...

I've had some good stuff from Sainsbury's in the past but I couldn't find anything I wanted that wasn't sold out in my size.

www.Box2.co.uk do some nice things up to size 32 I think. Not the cheapest but stylish and good quality.

Thanks, I'll have a look 😊

Edited

The coat turned up. It fits well but it's really sparkly! It has a gold sparkly thread woven through it that's not all obvious from the pics.

It's great condition and love it for weekends / evenings, but I would have preferred something a little more subtle for work - like it looks in the pics.

Never mind, will just need to style it out!

These two items have also shown up. They were really cheap - the dress was £33.75 (£45 with 25% discount) and the tunic was £36 in the sale.

I like the shape of the tunic. The dress is ok - I thought it was a shift dress shape though, I didn't realise it had a layer at the bottom, which I wouldn't have gone for if I'd realised.

But mostly, they're making me think of the words "false economy".

The material on them is really, really thin. Nothing like the cord dresses I got from Fatface or even Sainsbury's last year. And they have a weird chemical smell!

I've been not buying lovely looking cord dresses that are £75 because that seems like a lot, and I'm skint just now - but I've spent £70 on those two cheaply items that I won't get nearly as much wear out of as one decent one. Silly me!

I don't have time to change them so I'm going to keep them as I need to wear something (currently airing them to get rid of the smell!) but next payday if they still have lovely cord dresses in the shops I'll get a decent quality one.
