What top with these trousers?

I have my eye on these trousers from Next but I can't find anything that I could wear them with:

I'd be buying them for Autumn/Winter so ideally would want a top that has a bit of warmth rather than a thin blouse. Black or cream seem like the obvious choice, but I don't really suit those colours. I suit jewel tones, including the main colour of the trousers. Thanks in advance...

Presumably you could just buy a big burgundy sweater? It’s a fashionable colour this year so there’ll be plenty around. Like this:

However … Recognising that something isn’t going to slot easily into your wardrobe might be a good reason not to buy it.

Bonus as the & Other Stories appears to be out of stock; this is from the Men’s section of Community Clothing:

Thanks @ProperDeep, I actually already have a burgundy sweater, but it's a finer knit Uniqlo merino one. Do you not think that's too much burgundy? Maybe I'm overthinking it!

No - it will look like a co-ord set! Very cool.

Maybe add a white t shirt or shirt underneath to break up the colour, if you like.

They need to sack the stylist. What has that model got on her feet?

I agree with burgundy sweater - all one colour is having a moment. Alternatively, black or white would be nice. I’d wear something quite fitted for balance otherwise I’d look a bit shapeless (but that might be me).

At first I thought they were bronze ballet pumps, but I think she might be wearing sheer black tights with sandals. The mind boggles! I've tried them on and they look much better in person and I promise to wear better shoes if I buy them 😂

They're mesh ballerinas.

I think trying to match two burgundy shades is hard, some are more red, some purple and some more browny. Turquoise or bright green maybe? Or will that be too many 'colours' in one outfit given the trousers have three colours in them, so a top would be fourth and then shoes?
I've just bought some burgundy trainers from M & S.

So to be on trend you should do a black or white/cream bodysuit with racer back (sleeveless) or similar and a cardigan over the top as your warmth OR just a long sleeved/short sleeved bodysuit or a plain short sleeved nice material tee shirt tucked in.

SeenYourArse · 01/10/2024 13:34

Also only wear trainers or sliders on your feet no other options! 😂

Brrrrrr!

I've got similar trousers from River Island (mine are black with a white stripe). Personally I think a burgundy top would be too much but then I don't consider myself too fashionable.
I think you need a fitted t-shirt to balance the volume of the trousers. Anything in the same palette should work so burgundy, cream, white, black maybe- this picks out the colours in the trousers.
H&M have some good low cost t-shirts, and knitted t-shirt type things (fine knit type).
