Fiftieth Birthday Party - What to Wear?

IceIceBabyBump · 30/09/2024 09:32

Morning!

I'm off to a 50th birthday party in a few weeks. It's in a private room above a nice city centre bar/restaurant. Here are three options from my wardrobe - with the caveat that I'm not wearing a proper bra 😂
What do you think?
I don't want to buy anything new. But I'm not averse as long as its cheap-ish, can be dressed down and worn many more times. FYI, I'm 5'5, 38 yrs, size 8.

And what shoes? I've given up on proper shows since Covid so the only option really is a pair of chunky heeled sandals. I'm definitely not buying new shoes.

Assuming you’re in the UK, do you not possess anything more seasonal? I feel cold just looking at you - and if it were my party I’d want people to turn up in velvets and (fake) fur. (Maybe that’s just me?)

All your outfits look perfectly fine - for a summer day in town.

IceIceBabyBump · 30/09/2024 09:45

I'm not too bothered about being cold. I have a black coat to get me to and from the venue. Once I'm inside, I've been told the playlist is wall-to-wall cheesy 90s pop so I'll be warm from dancing 😅

Edited to add: I own more 'seasonal' things but they're all very casual. I don't own anything velvet or fake fur.

My personal favourite is the black and white jumpsuit.

IceIceBabyBump · 30/09/2024 11:10

@MrsRadichio Mine too though its a little bit big. Do you think its okay for a birthday party?

No 1 - the black and white. Looks more dressy/party than the others

Xmasmusings · 30/09/2024 11:20

Black and white for me too.
2nd choice the black one because of the detail on it although at first I thought it was a bit too work/office-y.
The orange one is a bit too summer.

Shoes = black heels? If you don't want to buy new, it's hard to say without seeing your current options!

I agree

My personal favourite is the black and white jumpsuit.

The Black and white the others look more day to day wear than party.

Elfbeth · 30/09/2024 12:25

My favourite is no.3 - the black one. With block heel sandals it’d look perfect!
Agree the orange is more for summer and I think the black and white is summery/ day time too

IceIceBabyBump · 30/09/2024 12:25

Thank you!

Other option is buying this one which I quite like and could dress down for future wear. But its a bit boring and DP said its "Got a touch of the Kate Middletons" about it and now I can't unsee that 😩

I love polka dots but, again, it's reading a bit summary. Kate has worn lots of polka dots too but so do lots of other people and I doubt anyone would take one look and think of her.

IceIceBabyBump · 30/09/2024 13:15

Oh that's interesting, thank you - I didn't get summer-vibes from the polka dot jumpsuit, it's more autumn/winter to my mind because of the navy colour.

What would you recommend that's more seasonal? And preferably about £50? And preferably a sleeveless jumpsuit? 😂

CapaciousHag · 30/09/2024 13:31

This looks a bit like a jumpsuit …

Zara

This is sleeveless:

Zara 2

This could be dressed down by throwing a huge sweater above and tall clumpy boots beneath:

Zara 3

IceIceBabyBump · 30/09/2024 13:34

@CapaciousHag I should've said it absolutely can't be a dress or skirt. These are all giving me hotel curtain vibes 😅

The black and white jumpsuit is more than fine imo. I don't think it's particularly summery and looks good on you, so why but anything new if you don't want to?

Personally, furs sound a bit OTT and velvet gives Christmas party vibes.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 30/09/2024 13:47

I thought the black and white one, but when I zoomed into the black one I saw the detail on it and thought that might work, depending on jewellery and shoes.

What shoes do you actually have that would go with them? I’d be more inclined to try and find some shoes to go with them up to £50 if you don’t have any suitable ones than buy another sleeveless jumpsuit.

Ireolu · 30/09/2024 13:55

The black one with the detailing. Pic 3. The rest look like casual daytime wear.

Stowickthevast · 30/09/2024 14:22

I've been to loads of 50th's this year and think any of those would be fine. I've worn jumpsuits, maxi dress, mini dress - but very loose. Next one I think I'm going to wear leather mini skirt.

I'd probably just wear trainers - but I'm a Londoner! Otherwise heeled ankle boots. I think sandals are a bit weird in October.

I also think you'd boil in velvet or fur - weird comment!

NashvilleQueen · 30/09/2024 14:31

I like the black one best because I think with the right accessories it would look great and it's a bit more edgy than the other options.

JaneJeffer · 30/09/2024 15:03

I like the first picture best

SushiSheep · 30/09/2024 15:14

I really like the black and white one!
I can't quite figure out what the pattern is though - feathers??

2nd choice would be the all black.

BlackSwan · 30/09/2024 15:23

The 1st and 2nd ones look like something to wear on a summer's day not out at night. Of the 3 the last one would do fine with an interesting belt and jewellery but you need to get the trouser hems taken up, not rolled up.

DiscoinFrisco · 30/09/2024 15:25

Black one is most eveningy. The other two are more summer drinks imo.

You have a great figure and with maybe some gold shoes/ bag and good makeup the black jumpsuit looks great.

rainfallpurevividcat · 30/09/2024 15:25

All look nice but I like the B&W jumpsuit the best and it would look great with chunky sandals.

mitogoshigg · 30/09/2024 15:27

The b&w is fine, chunky helped sandals also fine though I would travel there in something watertight!
