Please recommend me a *smooth* thermal top

Hi everyone,

I need a couple of thermal tops for under thin knitwear (I find a normal T-shirt top not warm enough and they cause drag).

Importantly I want them to be smooth. A slightly slippy fabric that my jumper won’t drag on. My current thermals are woolly in texture and cause the drag, making my jumper sit funny especially across the boobs.

Anybody come across such a thing?

Thanks!

Have you tried Uniqlo heattech?

GoingRoundThatBlockAgain · 29/09/2024 17:07

@shuffleofftobuffalo I have not. I’ll take a look, thanks.

Uniqlo heattech long sleeve crew necks. Extra warm cotton is a bit thicker than the standard heattech and not as slippy.https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E460354-000/00?colorDisplayCode=09&sizeDisplayCode=003

I am after exactly the same thing! I cannot bear the "drag"!!! I also want one so I can get a sweater vest!

PotOfTulips · 29/09/2024 17:30

Lands End. They do thermals including Thermaskin range, it's very smooth

MrsKwazi · 29/09/2024 17:31

Absolutely uniqlo heat tech.

greenwoodentablelegs · 29/09/2024 17:31

Uniqlo heattech. Super slippy

brisedusoir · 29/09/2024 17:33

Another vote for uniqlo heattech! You won't go back!

mynameiscalypso · 29/09/2024 17:36

The thin M&S ones are exactly what you're describing.

GoingRoundThatBlockAgain · 29/09/2024 17:37

Ordering some Uniqlo ones now’!

I’m a size 12. Medium look about right? @brisedusoir @MrsKwazi @greenwoodentablelegs @shuffleofftobuffalo @gaggiagirl please can you advise on sizing?

I’ve got Uniqlo dresses in Small and I wear their merino jumpers in Small (which is what I plan to put over my new slippy thermal tops!) but I guess these are v fitted so a Medium would be best?

Hmmm I would get both and try them on. I find the mediums too large and you want an under garment to be fairly fitted

CharlotteBog · 29/09/2024 17:52

M&S, Uniqlo, Sainsbury all have smooth thermals.
I struggle to find turtle neck ones to wear under polo or turtle neck jumpers, so often get an itchy neck area. M&S have those.

Don't know about Uniqlo but I buy the Em and Ess ones 2 sizes smaller than my dress size. They stretch and you want these layers to be as unbulky as possible underneath.

I love these

ImWearingPantaloons · 29/09/2024 18:02

Came on here to say Uniqlo

I have two of these, they’re very good.

brisedusoir · 29/09/2024 18:17

I'd say get a uniqlo S if your S in their dresses ... they are quite stretchy!

gaggiagirl · 29/09/2024 20:27

Uniqlo are very stretchy. I'm a UK size 8/10 and wear xxs and xs in the heattech tops as I want them as tight fitting base layers. I've also got an age 13 heat tech from the kids collection and thats a really roomy fit.

Scaredymaclaredy · 29/09/2024 20:50

I have some from tu but there’re a few years old. So good though , really warm and really smooth.

GoingRoundThatBlockAgain · 02/10/2024 15:16

Thanks to everyone for the Uniqlo recommendation! Heattech tops and leggings (and socks, I’m going all in) arrived today and they are exactly what I wanted. Lovely and slippy under my dress. Thanks for sizing tips too, small top is just right.

Although you also made me buy a frock while I was there shakes fist
