Which (probably) overpriced over-hyped supplement should I buy to help my thinning hair grow?

Please help me choose?! I've always had fine hair, not much of it. But I'm 43 now, entering peri menopause I think, and looking to try either a collagen supplement like Ancient + Brave:

https://ancientandbrave.earth/products/true-collagen-powder?variant=16401984028706

Or a dedicated hair loss support supplement with biotin, like Feel:

Has anyone tried either for hair growth and strength?

Just to add, I am following a healthy diet and exercise regularly, do all the right things, hardly drink alcohol any more etc. I also take iron, B12, Vit C, Vit D and Magnesium every day, and have the Rheal Balance Tonic I take most days (which all help with the tiredness, low mood, mood swings etc). I'm also cutting right back on using heat and hair clips in my hair to try and look after what I have left.

Thank you!

@Peridot1 love that you're throwing everything at it - hope you get some good results.

@Insidenumber09 I just had my 12th wedding anniversary too! Almost bought silk pillowcases but couldn't justify spending £60 in the end. Have put them on my Christmas wishlist. Hope you enjoy your anniversary celebrations and your new pillowcase helps (have read they're great for skin, too).

I'll definitely be getting some Regaine mousse soon.

@girlonfiree I've never heard of this before! Just had a quick Google and seems it's a thing. Off to Sainsbury's tomorrow to get some cloves then 😃 thank you, your hair growth looks fantastic (the bit around the front of my head/hairline is the worst for me too).

@girlonfiree that's incredible.

Off to buy cloves today. Thank you for posting.

One pic is a couple months ago and the other is last week. I'm growing so many that I now have an extremely mini fringe across my forehead made up of new hairs that I have to sort out somehow 😂

Wow that’s amazing 🤩 congratulations x

I don't like the oil on my scalp either, so am definitely going to try this clove water method.

By the way, I had some old shampoos and conditioners I was using up until recently. I had huge bottles of Aussie and Pantene which were years old ! (Perils of having a bob and very fine hair and not much of it these days. I only need a miniscule amount so they last years). Googled whether they go out of date and turns out they do...and can contribute to hair thinning! Needless to say they've been chucked. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else was hording old stuff too.

I honestly wouldn't waste any money on supplements or shampoos etc. The only licensed, evidence based product for hair regrowth is minoxidil (Regaine). I buy the generic one from eBay and it does work.

@soupfiend - I think it was you who recommend the Kevin Murphy products. I got the hair thickening lotion and tried it yesterday and it definitely makes my hair look much thicker. I also used the volumising powder which was ok - not keen on the feel of that but I would use it going out etc.

Hi @ForeverTipsy
just came across your post, wondering if you’ve had luck.

i’m almost at the end of my tether having been suffering for about 3 years (now nearly 47). Tried all the usual supplements. Just done an expensive order for Nyoxin serum and shampoo and thinking about trying Feel supplements too.

ForeverTipsy · 09/03/2025 20:41

Hello @Clearinguptheclutter . I have been taking a biotin supplement since last September, and think I've noticed a slight improvement. I've also tried to reduce heat styling, though that's hard because my hair just looks a frizzy mess when I don't blow dry and straighten.

I think the bar shampoo and conditioner helped a little, too (might be psychological).

Please let me know what you think of the Nyoxin serum and shampoo when you've used it for a little while? Good luck!

I will aim to update. I saw no effect with Biotin. From what I gather it can help with growth but I don’t think there is any evidence it can help with shedding which is my issue
