Dr martens - uncomfortable

liquidsquidli · 28/09/2024 19:23

I have some Dr Martens Smith shoes for work.

I just find them so heavy stiff and uncomfortable. I've worn them about 30 times now.

In the 90s I had some boot and they were really comfortable

I have arthritis in my toes and the the rigid sole seems to make it worse

Everyone tells me they are the comfiest ever? What have I done wrong?

I have to warn you that doc martens gave me endless plantar fasciitis so be careful of the stiff cardboardy leather ones. The only ones which are comfy like they used to be are the really expensive ones - I get mine off eBay for that reason, not spending £200 on boots.

Or your alternative is to look at solovair instead which is much better quality.

I already have PF!

Crap! 💩

Thanks @FaiIureToLunch exactly that cardboardy leather.

I'm not imagining it

No you’re not imagining it, I went away for a long weekend, I my took my DMs which were newish and came back hobbling, and was crippled for the next three years. Please just get rid of them on eBay.

Then get a lovely pair of worn in second hand pricey ones, you can always tell them. I have those ones now and they’re lovely o just wea insoles bit o do in all my shoes now

DM shoes gave me PF and aggravated an ankle injury.
Physio suggested lace up boots and orthotics.
I got Solovair boots half a size big, and put in Enetor insoles. They were comfortable from the box and I wore them several times a week for a year. After about a year my PF was completely better, my solovairs are even more comfortable and I'm looking forward to putting them on again this autumn.

I’ve just sold mine on Vinted. Bought two years ago, not broken in. The most awful blisters and rubbing. Will not buy again. In better news, found my 1995 electric blue DMs in my mum’s garage - now those are comfy ❤️

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 28/09/2024 22:51

I've had stilletos that were more comfortable than DMs. I never broke my only pair in.

It was them, not my feet. I have the most normal feet possible. No other brand or style was like them.

Rubyandscarlett · 28/09/2024 23:15

I have some patent ones that l love but still not broken in after 3 years

Pigeonqueen · 28/09/2024 23:20

The dms of today are not the same quality or comfort of the dms of our youth sadly. The pascal soft leather boots are the nearest thing to the old ones but everything else is just painful.

LemonyCoughSyrup · 28/09/2024 23:22

Try Solavair much more comfy, they’re made in the UK and who used to manufacture DMs in the UK. DMs are mainly made in china now and definitely not the same quality they used to be

How long do you wear them for at any one time? My shoes are almost there after a couple of months. Wear them for 12 hours at a time( work) .
