Which shoes for daytime 21st?

I have a 21st birthday get together tomorrow, during the day.

There's no dress code as such, but it is taking place in a hall as opposed to a house party.

I've settled on an outfit, but not sure which shoes to wear. Are trainers too casual for a birthday party at any time of day? Thoughts on these please! Thanks.

I wouldn't wear those trainers. They spoil the smart look. Maybe some in a different colour.

Businessflake · 27/09/2024 23:52

The trainers don’t go with that outfit. The shoes look good.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 27/09/2024 23:54

2nd pair. The yellow trainers look hideous with that outfit! 😬

!

Mcginty57 · 27/09/2024 23:54

I'd defo go for the trainers I really like them and think it makes the top edgy and on trend rather than Kat Slater which some people wearing animal print can look (you absolutely dont), I actually love that outfit. Chuck those second shoes in the bin, sorry.

NancyDrooo · 27/09/2024 23:54

For a 21st, trainers. Not sure about those ones though. The other shoes I might consider if it was my gran’s 80th (sorry!)

Mydogisaknob · 27/09/2024 23:54

Definitely the yellow Adidas!

Mydogisaknob · 27/09/2024 23:56

You could maybe do the black shoes with a diff top. Something with more volume and colour? It's a bit 'straight up and down' with everything so close fitting. The black shoes I bet make you look older and the outfit more boring. The yellow is more youthful.

Mcginty57 · 28/09/2024 00:01

Just to add, you've got a great figure you could pull anything off. Wear what you feel most comfortable in. I'm about to turn 39 with a 20 year old dd and we both vote first and think it looks cool for a 21st. The trainers are really on trend just now

SchoolyStuff · 28/09/2024 00:06

Maybe you could keep the trainers and wear more informal clothes? Like kind of dress like a pro basketball player? I saw someone dressed like that in a formal setting recently and he looked amazing.

Gloriana1 · 28/09/2024 00:10

Hmm.

I'm not desperately keen on either.

What else ye got?

Gloriana1 · 28/09/2024 00:14

Or, maybe the trainers & skirt with a more volumous black top.

I'm not sure about the leopard/black/yellow.

It's not speaking to itself.

Gloriana1 · 28/09/2024 00:18

I think the skirt and top would work better with a platform maryjane.

I think you need a proportional/stylistic juxtapose.

It's all abit neat with both shoes.

You need to throw it out a bit.

doingmyboxin · 28/09/2024 00:23

Is this any better? I've edited my feet because I have can't stand naked toes...

Or those sandals with the skirt and top?

I had bought wide leg cropped jeans to wear, but I've obviously put on a few pounds since I bought them two weeks ago Blush

I like it more.

Gloriana1 · 28/09/2024 01:05

Do you have a different top?

Something with volume?

Gloriana1 · 28/09/2024 01:06

I would bin the leopard.

BetsyRegards · 28/09/2024 04:29

The top is not nice.

The trousers seem ‘corporate’ rather than relaxed.

The skirt - a bit dated, but probably because of the top.

Trainers - awful colour.

Only like the Mary Janes. Build an outfit around them!

Do you have a bright cardigan, like this?

American Vintage

It would give the skirt some oomph.

Jackasnack · 28/09/2024 11:08

Trainers, skirt and different top - maybe a graphic tee?

doingmyboxin · 28/09/2024 13:59

I like the leopard print top tbf, either with the skirt or the trousers. I think the yellow Adidas are perfect for a 21st.

I'd ditch the Mary Jane style shoes- dated!

BetsyRegards · 28/09/2024 14:13

Second photo - great. As long as your feet won’t be frozen. The shoes would be lovely with that t shirt and skirt. (However I do feel it needs something a bit extra, otherwise it’s everyday clothes. What do you keep for best?)

@HollyGolightly4 - you missed the memo; Mary Jane shoes are the very height of fashion right now.Grin

HollyGolightly4 · 28/09/2024 14:19

@BetsyRegards 😬 they'll forever remind me of soaking wet, freezing feet in the early noughties.

I adore that trainers are acceptable now 🤣

doingmyboxin · 28/09/2024 14:25

I've just parked and a monsoon has started, so I think I might need to be the trainers (I brought them with me)
