What to wear to son's graduation ceremony in November

If it was a summer graduation I wouldn't have a problem with what to wear but my sons graduation is the first week of November and I'm thinking it's going to be cold so I don't want to wear a coat over an outfit so how do I dress?

If I go for a dress what type of dress? And what type of shoes and how would I cover myself as in a jacket or whatever as it will definitely be cold..first world problems I know so any advice appreciated thanks

Trouser suit & ankle boots?
Midi dress and long boots?

Do you mean you don’t want to wear a coat at all? Or that you don’t want to have a pretty dress then cover it with a coat?

Are you going out afterwards with your DS, for a meal or drinks?

@fernsandlilies hi yes I mean I wouldn't want to spoil a nice dress with an every day coat, I don't have any dressy occasion coats
I love a midi dress and own a few nice summer midi dresses I could have worn if only it was summer!
Yes we will be going out for a meal afterwards and then home for us..ds will have other plans after the meal haha

I had this last year and wore a lime jump suit, which was made from slightly heavier materiel than a summer one and a short leopard print jacket with a lime fur collar. And heels of some sort.

Ah, understood. Assuming budget is an issue I would be looking on Vinted for a smart coat and either get a new dress from the autumn ranges or see what you can do from your existing wardrobe. Do you have long boots to wear with a dress you already own? If it’s very cold then a furry gilet or a blazer over the dress?

@Teawaster I was thinking about a jumpsuit but not sure if they'd suit me I've never worn one other than when I was a kid

@fernsandlilies I think yes it will have to be a blazer over a dress because I think at least it would look dressy then, definitely wearing heels but not too high ..remembering the last time I wore high heels for an occasion a few years ago I could hardly walk in them and the pain haha I never had a problem when I was younger 😂 getting old me thinks!
Autumn style dresses midi length or a bit shorter would be my style
As I've said a spring summer occasion no problem but give me a autumn winter occasion I'm clueless 😂

A dress with a faux leather jacket on top? Lots of dresses look great with the biker jackets in M&S, French Connection etc.

Midi dress, boots, jacket?

@HotSource thanks I recently just bought a new black leather biker jacket so that's an idea
