How do you make mary-jane shoes work?

Mary-jane shoes seem to be everywhere at the moment.

I haven't bought any yet, but am wondering about it. There doesn't seem to be much choice out there shoe-wise (other than loafers and trainers).

How should mary-janes be worn?

Are they a risky choice?

They are at least stable and stay on your foot.

It is very weird indeed. Why do they make models do such weird poses?

I was out in central London today and I didn't see a single person wearing them. But there are loads in the shops.

Preferably with slim ankles. If you've got thick ankles like me then a strap across your shoe is not your friend.

This is excellent news. Most of my heels are Mary Janes and I had assumed I was massively out of fashion, but it sounds like I've been out of fashion for so long I'm now back to being fashionable again! 😅

I used to have a pair with a low heel, which I wore with opaques or semi-opaques and short or short midi dresses.

I've recently bought a pair after much hesitation. Leopard flat ones, planning to wear with jeans or wide leg trousers. The strap is not a thick one though so to me they look bit better..
