It’s the year of the 40th birthday parties! I already own this dress

I also already have a Hobbs silver clutch bag and some flat silver sandals.

It’ll be October so I’d like a ‘nice’ jacket. I play it quite safe in terms of style (probably very boring by your standards) but I’m open to all suggestions and it might be fun to see what you’d choose.

I don't think you need a jacket. Wear whatever outerwear you want to get to the party but I don't see the point in covering the top of the dress.

If you do want a jacket I think it needs to be cropped and boxy- perhaps this? Not 100% sure.

Nobody's Child jacket

Yes I think the lovely jacket @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle suggests is a good way to go. Other jacket lengths would hit at the wrong place and give no shape. Nice dress by the way!
