I am early 50s like to think fashionable 5ft 8 size 10 in case that helps and I have this shirt which I bought and loved on the hanger but have no idea what to wear it with. It’s pale.
in my mind I thought double denim look but the colour doesn’t look right with mid or dark denim ! Tried with black denim flares and mumsnet gurus help ? I work in a smart casual environment but equally would be happy to find something to style it with for going to the pub !! Or should I cut my losses and list it in vinted !

I would wear it open over a sleeveless top, team with midi skirt and boots.

I'd agree with wearing it over a sleeveless top, as a kind of light jacket/ cover up.

Tempting to just pair it with black trousers but I think it could just look a bit bland and shapeless that way. I've never liked the double denim look.

I always avoid these type of shirts for this very reason, never quite sure what to wear with them!

French- tucked with white jeans
With a mini or a-line pumpkin coloured corduroy skirt
With maroon/burgundy trousers

@Ironfloor269 that was the look I was thinking (French tuck) but can’t pull off white jeans ! It is a fairly slim fitting shirt. Maybe I’ll just get rid !

What about double denim with a darker jean and a knitted sleeveless jumper over the top so just the collar and arms showing to break up the full denim effect?

mynameiscalypso · 21/09/2024 22:08

Cords maybe? I could see it tucked in with some wide leg black/grey/brown cords and boots. Or dark grey jeans maybe.

Isthereeverenoughtineinaday · 21/09/2024 22:23

@teddybearsbear great idea hadn’t though of sleeveless jumper !

I’d wear that with navy wide leg trousers.

Isthereeverenoughtineinaday · 22/09/2024 09:14

@LoobyDoop2 that’s it !! Wide leg trousers very much my style - I don’t have any though ! Only me and em with a red stripe down the side !!

I have a very similar shirt and wear it tucked into wide leg corduroy trousers - I've got mustard and dark green pairs, both of which look great with the light denim.

I think this is a good suggestion.

Generally, I get why you liked it on the hanger - I'd be drawn to it too - but the collar is a bit...period...and could, on older person (I'm in my 50s) look more "Little House On..." rather than Prarie-chic. I think that's more the issue than it being a light denim. (IMO, natch)

Isthereeverenoughtineinaday · 22/09/2024 11:11

@GeorgeOrwellsTurningGrave yeah I get that - it’s H&M do was hoping for not the old lady look 🤣

Totally get that @Isthereeverenoughtineinaday - we all walk the line, LOL. Of course, you can wear what you want at whatever age BUT with the caveat that it makes you feel good when you wear it. I think any item that requires this level of thought, for me, is doomed to Vinted. 😁

I'd also say wide leg trousers. I've got a lovely green pair that I'm planning on wearing a similar shirt with.

I've also got some really nice Seasalt wide leg cords.

I think wide leg jeans in a different wash would look nice. That’s how I do double denim.
