As per title .
I had to do a face shot for a work profile.
Noticed in all of the photos one eye is massively different size to other . I've now taken about 100 selfies to see if it's time of day , lighting etc
But nope I've got strange eyes .. I can't say when this happened.
Has this crept up on me over the years .
No Botox.
Age 60 plus
Any ideas on make up tips to stop me being lop sided

Have you had your thyroid levels tested? This can cause bulging to the eyes.

GreatMistakes · 19/09/2024 11:49

Ptosis?

Def worth an optician appointment.

I found something similar happened in my late fifties; my face was suddenly asymmetrical, with eyes exactly as you describe. Google told me it could be a natural part of aging. Hmm

(Neither the GP nor the optometrist had found anything significant so I resigned myself …)

Oddly enough, a brief interlude of rest and comparative relaxation has improved things slightly.

TheDutchHouse · 19/09/2024 11:57

I have had recent optical appointments due to short sightedness and a diabetic check.
Nothing was noted .
Rested is something I'll never be as I don't sleep well. Annoyingly.
But now I'm aware of it I'm really self conscious. Would make up help ?

Do you have astigmatism? People who do , often have eyes that are different shapes, particularly I'd only one eye is affected.

Faces and bodies are slightly asymmetrical. More so with age.

Cameras these days do often show up more detail than they used to, you will be more critical of yourself than anyone else will be.

How recent is recent. If not within 3 months I'd be going back and mentioning the change in eye shapee

Yes I have always had astigmatism so that sounds interesting

It's noticeable but then maybe I'm conscious of it more so because of these pictures?

I have two quite different shaped eyes. I have always noticed a difference but getting older has made it more noticeable and when I am tired even more so!

DoneAndNotDusted · 19/09/2024 18:14

@TheDutchHouse Your right eye looks more hooded than the left. Eyes can become more hooded due to ageing, annoyingly! I still think it would be a good to see your GP/optician though, just to check.

blueberrymojito · 19/09/2024 19:11

This happened to me when I took a selfie last year. I'd never noticed it before and I'm only 33. It really freaked me out, although it's barely noticeable in the mirror or in real life. I made an urgent appointment with the optician as I was in complete panic mode, showed him the photos. He did a really thorough eye test and he didn't have any concerns. I also had an MRI on my brain shortly after as I was struggling with migraines too, and that was clear so it turns out it's just one of those things. Very strange though when it's a change from the usual. I'd get an up to date eye test for reassurance to put your mind at rest.

blueberrymojito · 19/09/2024 19:13

Looking at the picture, is the smaller eye the side you sleep on at all?

Looks like your eyelids - filler is a non-surgical option if it's really bothering you. But see a really decent specialist! This chap shows some amazing results by way of example.

Yes it is .. could it be as simple as that ?

I will do so .
Anyone recommend a way of using make up to give a more even look ?

Please get checked by your optician and GP. Even if you have seen your GP recently they will happily see you.again.

It may well be nothing but it can be a sign of something neurological

SwedishEdith · 19/09/2024 20:40

I don't think they're significantly different. I have one eye that is slightly more hooded than the other. I notice it but I suspect that's just what I look like to everyone else. Does it look completely different to previous photos or have you (sorry, I'm a similar age) had an aging spurt so it just looks different to you? Or have you any allergies irritating your eyes so slightly puffy?
