Wide jeans can you wear them with a big tummy

I've lost 4.5st but unfortunately have a big tummy and excess skin. I'm mid 40s and really want to dress a bit modern. My general style is fat face, Boden, joules so not the most fashionable.

But as I have gone from a size 18/20 to 14/16 I wanted to try some wide leg jeans and move away from my jeggings (which are all loose on me now) but I don't know if they suit me with a big tummy and not sure what top style to wear.

I was thinking of wearing them with white trainers

Any tips or suggestions thanks

They're far more flattering than tighter trousers. I wear mine with longer tops. I accidentally found a way of making it looks like you have a waist which was getting my top caught in the waistband. Tuck a very small amount of fabric into the waistband and you have a waist.

The other thing you can do is remove the eye from your stomach. I'm talking about statement jewellery, interesting necklines.

I'm a size 16 and wear those M and S wide legged jeans. I think they're a good shape and the fitted waist keep the tummy contained!!! H and M wide legged jeans are also good too - £19.99 from memory. Now I've started wearing them, I actually prefer them to skinny styles as they're more comfortable around the knees. As per your post, the key is the style of top to wear. Definitely fitted or slightly cropped. With jumpers I tuck in by the zip of the jeans and leave slightly longer at the back, so they kind of hang in neat folds at the side. A belt also helps define the waist too. I prefer darker colours - I have black, indigo and dark grey which are all more flattering/slimming than light colours. I'm short - 5 ft 5 - so M and S short is prefect on me.

I’ve got a tummy (peri and two c-sections) and I find Levi’s Ribcage Wide very flattering. Nice thick denim and they suck everything in.

I invested in some 90s style body suits to wear with them, which are also quite sucky-inny.

In my experience, the only place wide leg jeans are not fairly fitted is in the legs. They usually have quite high waists, for example

Have a look at the jeans on the Beyond Nine site. They’re very flattering and designed to accommodate larger middles:

The ribcage ankle straight ones are flattering and wide enough for me. I usually fine wide is too wide so look for a generous cut straight.

I wear the M&S ones,16, I'm 5'5" too but the short are too short on me and the regular very slightly too long, unlike a PP I think the light colours are more flattering but I tend to wear them with white tops, tiny tuck into the front as others have said to make your legs look longer and always wear a belt.

PrimalLass · 19/09/2024 10:04

I can't - they just make me look wide all over.

OnlyFrench · 19/09/2024 10:04

I can't wear them. Tall, size 12 with a menopausal stomach. I find they push my tummy out even more and don't flatter me.

I think they look good (although not sure how they would work if you are extremely apple shaped!).
The trick is to keep to a fitted top half or at least tuck your waist so its visible. (even though the temptation is to cover your tummy! I think it looks worse to us then it does to other people anyways!).

I find them very flattering, I'm a 14 and quite pear shaped but with more of a tummy than I'd like. My tip would be go for a high waisted style
