Tights tights tights

As winter approaches I sort through my tangle of tights checking for ladder, holes, picking off fluff.... and thought fuck it and threw them in the bin.

So I'm now looking for a winters worth of tights 🤣 mainly black opaque but also a few nudes and I'm quite partial to the odd patterned/polka dot for whimsy.

Can't justify the price of snag tights (well for all but temped by the pattern ones). Any supermarketish recommendations? I'm 5'0 and size 10/12.

I'd try and justify the cost of snags because they last. I've had mine years. Or lots sell them on vinted or the FB group

I’d second Snags! They wash brilliantly, don’t fall/roll down, don’t seem to bobble like others. Lots of colours/patterns/deniers and a good sizing chart to help (no, I don’t work for them 😂)

There are no black snags in a 'C' (which I think is what I am) 😞

I have always got on well with the M&S velvet touch opaque ones. I think they are £9.50 for a pair but wear well and look good.
I notice the difference in durability between those and when I get a pack of three for £8 ( I think) which look good for a while but after a month or two will inevitably end up with a toe hole or bobble and lose their stretch.

M&S are really good. They sell multipacks of opaque tights that last forever and the autograph ones are good aswell. They don’t roll down and I don’t find myself hitching them constantly up like cheaper supermarket tights. Also they keep their stretch!

I'm in the same situation as I used my tights this summer to support my tomato plants.
A friend has recommended the tights from white stuff for warmth. The cotton ones I think.

They restock regularly or try vinted, people sell new/unwanted on there all the time

Tkmaxx sell tights so you could look there to see what's in and interesting without costing an arm and leg.

I have had the same review of my nylons draw as you - this summer I made a discovery. I threw out about a dozen pairs of old faithfuls that had taken on that worn and washed too often look and feel - mainly M&S.
I bought a pair of Transparenze Scandal suspender tights for a wedding - mainly because they were the only decent ones in white. What a revelation!
Not cheap (£20) but the quality is superb. I was a bit concerned about the suspender design (I hate traditional suspenders) - but no faf with these.
When I went to the wedding a made a fundamental mistake of wearing them like normal tights over knickers - but if you wear then under knickers, they are so convenient (no more hoiking tights up in the loo) and it makes going to the loo super simple.
I have now bought some others in black and also a pair in the Transparenze Cortina range - 100D opaque (£16 ebay) - they are such good quality and fit me so well - wore them to work last week. They feel like royal standard luxury - really well made.
I also think that the open gusset will help me avoid the winter thrush episodes I seem to get when I wear tights to work all the time.
I see others recommending Snag - these just don't fit me.

Are snag good around the toes? All mine get holes in around the big toes (I buy mine in M&S and JL), and it drives me mad!! I regularly cut my nails but it still happens.

FluffBomb · 16/09/2024 10:31

John Lewis Barely There or M&S

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 16/09/2024 10:33

Snag tights are rubbish! I’ve never had tights develop holes quite so quickly. I’m not totally anti-Snag - I do quite like their chub rub shorts.
I’ve been really pleased with the opaque tights I’ve had from Waitrose- probably John Lewis branded. Cheaper than Snag, and last so much longer.

I really rate Tu (Sainsbury's) for basic black or navy, especially the velvet touch tights

WorriedRelative · 16/09/2024 10:39

I think Primark tights are normally good
