How to stop nipples showing through your top?

Hikewithme · 13/09/2024 13:52

I wore a white tight sweater yesterday and all I could see when I looked in the mirror was nipples.

I always wear loose fitting or black tbh so it’s rarely an issue. But now I’ve lost weight I want to wear more fitting tops. I’ve googled it and there’s silicon cups you can place over, but just wondered if anyone used something better?

All men have penises. I'd rather not have their contours in my face when I'm trying to hold a conversation.

Yeah but we see male nipples all the time!

Both women's nipples and men's penises are rarely-revealed body parts in everyday life in the West. That's the equivalence 🙄

Boobs are still not the equivalent of penises imo.

All humans have nipples. The equivalent of female nipples is male nipples, not genitals. Crazy comparison.

But women’s nipples are sexualised. Mens not so much .. it’s not really that “crazy” of a comparison

Is there a reason you can't wear a bra with thicker cups? This is a weird thread.

marshmallowfinder · 13/09/2024 16:00

Silicone nipple covers are available and really effective.

ETgo · 13/09/2024 16:10

Use these:

Even with moulded bras I have this problem and personally I don't like how it looks if they're showing so have these in white, nude and black

Christwosheds · 13/09/2024 17:36

I think there’s been a weird shift. My teenage daughters wear padded bras for this reason , although the eldest (19) says her peer group at uni seem to have stopped caring and so she is also less worried now about going braless. I have never worn a padded bra and literally give no thought whatsoever to nipples showing, I don’t think I’ve ever worried about it at all. It just wasn’t a thing when I was a teenager or younger adult. I don’t see any difference in seeing the bump of women’s nipples in a T shirt, or men’s.

The thing is, I rarely see men's nipples when they're clothed. Can't remember the last time I did. Also women's nipples are different. They're much bigger for a start and can protrude quite significantly if a woman's cold! Given that men are sexually aroused by women's breasts abd nipples, I personally wouldn't be comfortable with my nipples being very visible, especially as erect nipples are often seen as a sign that the woman's aroused!
Of course, it's not a woman's problem if a man finds something arousing. I admire women who couldn't care less and happily go braless. Good for them! But some of us are just too self conscious. I want my nipples kept well hidden.

Here comes the prudes

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 13/09/2024 19:51

Not really prudes - t-shirt bras exist purely to avoid nipples or any lumps from lacy bras showing through T-shirts or other thinner material clothing that would show them through.

the question is reasonable- why are you looking for complex solutions rather than just getting a t shirt bra/thicker bra?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/09/2024 20:01

When you say...

"all I could see when I looked in the mirror was nipples"

I just wonder how many of these things you have? 😳

TheActualAudacity · 13/09/2024 20:05

Mine show through molded, t-shirt bras. Ain’t nothing I can do about it and they’re pretty round and pert at 55 so I give zero shits if this annoys other people.

Adult human female has nipples SHOCKER!

Haha no - I'm actually in the nips out camp myself 😁 this question isn't rooted in prudishness - just that the OP hadn't really answered why a thicker cupped bra wasn't the solution here.

That’s a false equivalence. Men also have nipples - do you find male nipples in a t-shirt so distasteful?

Probably not.

You can't really make the comment "here come the prudes" when you're" the one asking how to hide your nipples! The answer is obviously wear a thicker / padded bra. Or a mould inside your bra. What other solutions could there be?

Are you a prude for wanting to hide your nipples??

Oldfatandfrumpy · 13/09/2024 20:13

I find the foamy type bras stop this

deltabluesandpinks · 13/09/2024 20:13

@LoftyPeachSnake the weird thing is, it was the OP who made the prudes comment...!

No, just answering your question.

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/09/2024 20:14

Just wear an M&S t-shirt bra or similar. It doesn't have to be padded. The cups are made of a slightly thicker material. Simple!

But you're the one who wants to cover your nipples - and PP was giving you a solution 🤨

Cheeesus · 13/09/2024 20:16

Yes, these type of bra. They look padded but are just ‘nipple proof’. Or are we missing something?

Well, not missing something but I still get rounded protrusion in those bras.

But as I posted, I give not a shit.

edit for typp

LoftyPeachSnake · 13/09/2024 20:19

Haha I've only just realised that 😅 whoops

Well @Hikewithme sorry my solution is too prudish for you! If you wanted to have a thread discussing the wrongs of sexualising women's nipples and bodies, you could have just done that. Why ask about how to cover them if you think good bra makes you a prude 😆

CrunchyCarrot · 13/09/2024 20:23

Christwosheds · 13/09/2024 14:58

This.I am baffled by the worry re nipples, we all have them .

Yep, I can't understand it personally, having grown up in the 'burn your bra' era! 😂
