New York style - October 😎

Off to New York for a few days in October to celebrate a 50th (not mine 😅) and am starting to think about what to wear - early I know but planning is part of the fun of it for me! I know it’s still roasting there at the moment but I expect it will have cooled down a bit by then. We are probably going to go for a couple of fancy meals and a cocktail bar or two, and I wondered if anyone could give me some pointers on what stylish (not hugely fashionista) mid-forties ish people might wear to go out in Manhattan. I can’t seem to get beyond And Just Like That/Sex and the City 🙈which really is too fashion for me… Footwear ideas also - I love my chunky boots but are fancy shoes more of a thing there?

The weather can do anything there in October, from heatwave to freezing. So be prepared. As for what to wear, it depends where you’re going? I generally pitch it the same as if I’m going to London, to be honest. Comfortable if sightseeing and going to casual eateries, with a couple of reasonably dressy outfits if we’re eating somewhere fancier.

Ahhh that's so exciting!

When I went at that time of year it was a cold snap, I wore lots of jumpers with skirts + tights + knee high boots and a coat (normally a camel coat) or leggings + oversized sweater + trainers/uggs + cap. Both worked well depending if we were street stomping or fancy sort of day!

For the evenings I did heeled boots and dresses with or without tights depending on the length, or dark jeans and cute shoes with a nice blouse.

Most people I saw in the daytime were in trainers / Uggs / boots (not very SATC) and everyone looked lovely. I'd 100% dress for comfort with your shoes, not point looking cute and being covered in blisters 😂

Ah ok, that’s great - I can do dressing for London so if I stick to that I should be ok? Just had a panic that everyone would be in LBDs and pointy heels to go out in, but if more ‘normal’ dressed up for drinks is ok, I can do that 🙂

Have fun. New York is fantastic. Go for a walk along the High Line if you can.
