When, oh when, will this puff sleeved trend end?

Just that. I can't be the only one who looks an absolute fool in them- almost like I am in drag- and yet they continue on for another year, like a plague of locusts.

But you don't actually have to wear them, if they don't suit you?

YellowRoom · 12/09/2024 15:51

I look like Grayson Perry in them 🤮

KStockHERO · 12/09/2024 15:54

I wore a puff sleeve top to the pub the other week thinking I'd totally nailed the stylish and effortless "jeans and a nice top" vibe.

My friend said I looked like Malvolio from Twelfth Night.

It's now on Vinted.

I have been on a no buy most of this year, but looking at autumn stuff, so many dresses and tops still have puff sleeves? Hard to avoid. Also tiers, ruffles, and bows.

Grayson Perry meets Eddie Izzard, yes. Some people look lovely in them, mostly women with softer faces, maybe? It's not a size thing.

I hear you.

I have hefty shoulders and these things make me look like a big beefy wrestler.

I'm so sick of seeing otherwise decent dresses and tops in the shops, getting all hopeful, and then clocking the puffed sleeves and realising they would actually make me look 3 foot wide.

rolandthefarter · 12/09/2024 16:10

The Holly Hobby look just refuses to die 😡

henlake7 · 12/09/2024 16:19

Im ok with elbow or below length, its the really short ones that look daft on me....Im just too old for them! I think you have to be really young for the little puff sleeves.
Although I have a couple of dresses with full length balloon sleeves and I love those (one of my fav long sleeves coz you can easily hoik them up if you need to do the washing up!).

CharlotteRumpling · 12/09/2024 16:27

oh well, it will make it easier for me to continue my no buy. I really don't like anything in the shops any more, or rather I like it on the model and not on myself.
I might just take myself off to the charity shops.

What puff sleeve trend? I must have missed that

Icarus40 · 12/09/2024 16:44

I ordered a dress that did not appear to have puff sleeves on the website/model. And yet...puffy!! My shoulders are my broadest bit so I look like a brick shithouse in puff sleeves, despite being slim!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 12/09/2024 16:46

I love puffed sleeves! Puffed sleeves and a v'neck would be my holy grail. I am pear shaped and they look great on me.

DillDanding · 12/09/2024 16:48

I wouldn’t be seen dead in puffed sleeves. I’m quite tall and I’d look line a linebacker.

Me too

It's tiers for me. Hate them.

I've stopped buying new clothes at all these days because everything in the shops is vile - poor quality, shit colours, terrible fit. I also find the styling on websites very off-putting - the models are always looking miserable in weird poses so you can't actually tell what the item looks like.

I've found some lovely stuff in charity shops. Don't get me wrong that some of what I've found has been cheap fast fashion stuff that I'd have just skipped over and dismissed online or in a shop. But somehow in a charity shop in an eclectic mix of stuff, it looks good and I feel much more positive about it. And its a good way to give to charity.

BabstheBounder · 12/09/2024 17:02

I love a puff sleeve. I don't even care if I look like a linebacker or a Shakespearean actor in them. I love the shape and size and enjoy taking up space.

I'm trying to wear more clothes that I love and not care what opinions others may have on that. They can wear their slim sleeved shirts and leave me with the glorious volume.

BlackbirdRobin · 12/09/2024 19:24

I feel your pain OP- I look ridiculous in them. I'm constantly taking things to the tailors to slim the sleeves down to a sensible width. If I didn't do that I'd never be able to buy any new clothes as EVERYTHING seems to have them at the moment.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 12/09/2024 19:28

I love puff sleeves, they really flatter my body shape.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 12/09/2024 19:29

What bothers me more is cutouts everywhere. Lovely dresses but there's a big hole right at the side. Why? Just why?

Isometimeswonder · 12/09/2024 19:29

I feel the same about cold shoulder tops.
I despise them!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/09/2024 19:42

I know what you mean, but it didn't do Henry VIII any harm - if you ignore the fact that he 'exploded' whilst being crammed into his coffin. 😳

LittleMissPollyHadADolly · 12/09/2024 19:45

Yup.

Ha! I looked this up to see if it actually happened, and it did.

I have only come across the concept of "taking up space" on S and B and tbh, I don't understand it.

I like puff sleeves. At least they cover your up comfortably. Much better than those fucking armpit-revealing, sweat-inducing cap sleeves that were on that ugly Galaxy dress and pretty much everything else at one point. Who the fuck wants to draw attention to their armpits?

Swearwolf · 13/09/2024 06:38

I'm with you, I hope it dies out soon! I don't mind it generally but on me it's ridiculous. I'm short with chubby upper arms and they just make me look enormous and childish all at the same time. So many lovely dresses ruined by puffy sleeves!
