Boden purple trousers - yes or no?

CoffeeAndStripedtops · 10/09/2024 08:45

I own several pairs of Boden Ponte trousers, as I love how soft and comfortable they are, as well as warm enough for the cold European winters.
I was recently browsing the page and came across this purple Westbourne pair - and I absolutely love them! Not the first pic but the other ones.

But there is also something I really don't like about them and I can't quite put my finger on it... I think it's the color which I both love but it also feels a bit "old"...

I'm early 40s and petite size 8/10, and would wear them with either a striped top or a plain jumper or blouse.

What do you all think? Yay or nay?

They look fab and I love the colour. Go for it. You can always return them if you're not sure when you have them on or if they don't go with your tops.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 10/09/2024 09:32

I love the style of these trousers and quite like purple - but not this shade, sorry. It's too bright I think (although it looks a different shade in the first pic with the yellow jumper). I'd go for the green or red if you want a strong colour.

Berga · 10/09/2024 09:34

It's the purple. I love purple of all kinds but this is just wishy washy.

Berga · 10/09/2024 09:36

Oh I only looked at the first picture when I posted. The subsequent pictures are not wishy washy! They look like something on sale in Bay Trading around the millennium.

banivani · 10/09/2024 09:42

Well, I had a colleague some years ago who wore a cardigan to work in that colour and somone said to her "oh, it's last-chance-lilac, is it?". Apparently it's a colour associated with middle-aged/older women who want to look a bit ... well, depending on how you put it ... fun, young, available, in enjoyment of second stage of life? This is not something I'd ever heard before. But it is a colour popular among slightly older women here in Scandinavia. In general it's a good colour for white, Nordic types. But I've also read that our colour perception changes as we age so it genuinely starts looking better as we get older. It's not a colour I (50) like myself as it doesn't remotely suit me.

Edited: I clicked through to other pictures and possibly those trousers are too saturated/dark for last-chance-lilac. ;)

suburburban · 10/09/2024 09:49

They are nice but I would find it hard to match up with things

Interesting about colour perception

There's the I will wear purple poem

maslinpan · 10/09/2024 10:18

It's just a strong colour that you either have to go with it and risk a Mr Tumble vibe, or try and tone it down. Not many neutrals would go with it, possibly navy, or white.

MoodEnhancer · 10/09/2024 10:44

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I love the look of these trousers (esp in red!) and wondered if they would work on someone with wide hips? I am slim but have wide hips and so trousers can be a pain esp with side pocket placement - but I love this style!

LadyDanburysHat · 10/09/2024 10:52

I think the purple is too bright and makes them look cheap. A darker tone would be lovely.

mynameiscalypso · 10/09/2024 10:57

I think they would look nice in a darker, richer purple. I also think the fit on the penultimate picture looks pretty bad.

redtrain123 · 10/09/2024 10:59

Lovely trousers. Go for it.

Morebloodyexpense · 10/09/2024 11:08

Purple is a slippery slope. You let a bit in your wardrobe and then it attracts more and sooner or later you’re dressed like Willy wonka.

CoffeeAndStripedtops · 10/09/2024 12:07

Thank you everyone! I must say I'm still undecided, however a pp has articulated perfectly what I don't like about them... it's the last-chance-lilac effect I'm worried about (love the name though!).
I already have them in green and red from last year but might consider a different color or style...

It sounds like I am a similar body type to you (wide hips and small waist) and these work well with a belt. I also have the Hampshire ones and haven't found any issues with proportions. They are great trousers (well for me at least!).

Possibly people who suit lilac/pale purples need to reclaim them from the Golden Girl vibe! Shame to discount entire colour palettes because of ageism Shock (I will admit to similar prejudice but I'm not proud of it)

henlake7 · 10/09/2024 12:44

Not the colour for me but I do like the green.

I can't decide if I think the style is ageing or not, you can't tell from the pictures what they would look like on a normal person (the model is apparently 5'9 and a size 6, so not exactly regular sized!LOL).

TorroFerney · 10/09/2024 12:45

Its bonkers how they can appear to be 2 different colours on those photos.

I think purple gets a bit of bad press as it is associated with (for me anyway)

The poem
Mrs Slocombe's purple rinse
David Icke

I am trying to think the last time I saw someone wearing purple - who wasn't a cleric - and I can't recall.

Err my font has gone huge - not sure if that is just for me or everyone - no idea what has happened.

HellonHeels · 10/09/2024 13:00

I reckon if you have two pairs of bright coloured trousers already, you might have enough? Unless it's your "thing" to wear all the brights?

They give me a Hillary Clinton trouser suit vibe.

suburburban · 10/09/2024 13:32

Order them OP

You can always send them back.

Papyrophile · 10/09/2024 13:52

The colour in the outdoor shot is definitely 'last-chance lilac'; the studio pictures are a bit electro, so I'd be sticking to the red.

CharlotteBog · 10/09/2024 14:31

They look lovely in the photo of the model outside, but VERY bright on the individual trouser photos.

I am 53 so maybe I am now naturally drawn to last-change lilac (never heard this before, it made me laugh!).

AmyDudley · 10/09/2024 14:33

I prefer the green,
But what is going on with the navy/red stripe ones? they look like postie uniform trousers

Scandiviews1 · 10/09/2024 16:00

Yes it's the colour that's off. Not quite the right shade of purple..more of a pink with a bit of purple which I personally don't like. Combined with the crease its potentially a bit frumpy. The red ones are nice though.

Gulbekian · 10/09/2024 16:30

They look more fuchsia than purple to me. In any event, I find them much too bright.

Edited

Boden say they are regal purple. Since I am not up to speed on my regal palette I looked it up. Regal purple is quite a deep purple; if I say Cadbury purple us commoners might have a better idea of the hue.

In any case, those trousers are neither regal or Cadbury foil colour.
