Boden purple trousers - yes or no?

CoffeeAndStripedtops · 10/09/2024 08:45

I own several pairs of Boden Ponte trousers, as I love how soft and comfortable they are, as well as warm enough for the cold European winters.
I was recently browsing the page and came across this purple Westbourne pair - and I absolutely love them! Not the first pic but the other ones.

But there is also something I really don't like about them and I can't quite put my finger on it... I think it's the color which I both love but it also feels a bit "old"...

I'm early 40s and petite size 8/10, and would wear them with either a striped top or a plain jumper or blouse.

What do you all think? Yay or nay?

Yes, red and purple were a St Laurent's signature colour combination in the 80s/ 90s. Red and strong pink and red and orange, too. But all those shades were very carefully chosen.

This is not a shade of pink/ mauve/ purple that will sit easily with many other colours.

Cielovista · 22/09/2024 09:14

Just no.

smallsilvercloud · 22/09/2024 09:26

No, I don't think purple looks good on any age or colouring. I cringe when I think back to anything I've worn purple.

Love last chance lilac 😂 I will always think that now for that colour!
This is no chance Purple.

M5ybelle · 22/09/2024 10:34

You will have to see what they look like on you. I’m looking for burgundy cords, not red, purple, cerise, mauve, violet, magenta, but a shade that seems impossible to name.

RogueFemale · 22/09/2024 11:10

You say you have several pairs of these trousers already. I understand wanting more when you find something you really like, but I think you're trying to convince yourself about the purple, just because you want another pair and you've already got the other colours.

It's a no to purple from me. You're too young for a colour like this.

MrsWhattery · 22/09/2024 11:25

Wow that is a seriously unforgiving, eyeball-frazzling “purple”! Purples and pinks are funny, they include a huge range of colours and many of them I love - I do wear aubergine and muted lilac type colours - but that would take some carrying off. I’m not sure it’s “old” or at least I can’t see it on most of the older women I know, I’m more imagining an arty type who wear them to an opening or gig - and could look amazing with the right outfit.

it’s very Boden to do at least one very bright colour in each item, which is not for everyone but if you genuinely like it, as a pp said order it as you can always return.

Skybluepinky · 22/09/2024 12:35

If it’s yr thing go for it, but people will be thinking wth she wearing.

Anonymouseposter · 22/09/2024 12:37

I dont like the colour. Its not really purple, its a lilac shade. I like the shape of the trousers but I think you're right and its the colour that's putting you off.

NO
They are full of synthetics aka plastics that are released into the enviroment as microplastics when you clean them.
Use wool hemp cotton silk linen- tencel and bamboo at a pinch.

STOP using plastics [acrylic, nylon, poly anything], theyre in our brains blood womb testes digestive track.
They very well could be driving the Dementia epidemic
Check labels, anything that says 'blend' is suspect.

We are an Insanely stupid gullible species, we poison ourselves and every other species around us and the planet that keeps us alive.
And the Fashion industry is one of the worst culprits, along with customers like you who dont make informed choices.

You have TWO pairs already, such irrational overconsumption and greed.
You will survive without them.

@RaspberryParade I agree that plastic is an environment scourge. I've seen no evidence that it's 'driving dementia'.

To my mind, the primary cause of dementia is keeping people alive who'd have otherwise died naturally of heart attack, stroke, or cancer.

Well done NHS, now you can look after people only vaguely aware they're alive for another 10 or 20 years.

Love. It’s the type of crazy colour you dither over for weeks, but when you get them home they transform your wardrobe and go with everything.

Oh it looks bloody great on me, light to medium olive skin and hazel eyes that look green against purple. I'd only wear a very deep version of it though, like aubergine, but that is very difficult to find. And I tend to avoid it because I'm the right age group to be one of those women described above who dye their hair purple and wear purple glasses and generally go nuts with it.

hepsitemiz · 23/09/2024 08:23

Personally, the purple ones are a little dusty, too toned down, too pastel.

If you're doing purple, which I do like, then you go all out.

I love the orangey-red ones

Violetparis · 23/09/2024 08:35

They look pink to me.

unsync · 23/09/2024 08:51

That's not what I call purple, regal or otherwise, not enough blue in them. Its more of a dark fuschia to me, I get pink not purple. I guess the only way is to buy them and see what they're like. Then post a pic for us please.

Rowansiskin · 23/09/2024 17:36

I’m wearing purple right now (cardigan) and wear lots of bright colours but that colour is too bright for me. I love the red ones though!

daisychain01 · 23/09/2024 21:40

No way would I buy those trousers based on the colours on the Biden website, they're bonkers!

I think it's to do with the photos being taken outdoors, as they look a lot more muted than the studio photos.

the purple ones are a sort of raspberry crush outdoors, but a really bright colour purple in the studio and the green ones look bottle green outdoors (which are really lovely) but a light pea green indoors (not so nice).

I like the shape and the fact they have belt loops..

honestasever · 24/09/2024 02:45

I love purple, I don’t like pink.
They’re pink imo

CoffeeAndStripedtops · 24/09/2024 09:54

Could this be the real colour?? I definitely like this shade more that the other two...
Very YSL as a pp pointed out.

Thank you again everyone but I'm still no closer to deciding.

Lol I think this must be a British thing... I'm in Europe and I don't think we have this prejudice against purple. However I agree, some shades just seem a bit too "try hard" which is what I kind of get from these trousers (but I still love the idea of them!)...

I think they look really nice, you have me wanting a pair now! But I do know what you mean about them, the colour is lovely but not the first pic so hopefully they won't arrive looking like that! It could be the material might be a bit clingy but you must know what there like as you already have some. Lovely colour!

Abra1t · 13/10/2024 17:06

I've just bought a black pair of Westbournes and have been very impressed. They are flattering, warm and don't crease. I wore them for a weekend where I was seeing a solicitor, then using a Lime bike, then transporting a geriatric dog by public transport across London and finally going shopping in the West End, and they worked well for a kind of mad day.

They are great, aren't they. I have the dark green pair and also feel I can wear them anywhere and style in many different way. Plus they are really cozy for this time of year.

Don't think I would get as much use from the purple ones, might need to get a pair of black ones instead...
