Boden purple trousers - yes or no?

CoffeeAndStripedtops · 10/09/2024 08:45

I own several pairs of Boden Ponte trousers, as I love how soft and comfortable they are, as well as warm enough for the cold European winters.
I was recently browsing the page and came across this purple Westbourne pair - and I absolutely love them! Not the first pic but the other ones.

But there is also something I really don't like about them and I can't quite put my finger on it... I think it's the color which I both love but it also feels a bit "old"...

I'm early 40s and petite size 8/10, and would wear them with either a striped top or a plain jumper or blouse.

What do you all think? Yay or nay?

They describe the green as pine, where I would say pine is a deeper green than their trousers.

The red are described as hot pepper and again I would say they should be a deeper red. The Boden red is more scarlet.

Who is the Boden colour person?!

ManhattanPopcorn · 10/09/2024 16:56

I like the colour but the problem with trousers like that is how to put a whole outfit together. What shoes and what coat would you wear?

I think that colours like that are easier to wear in the Summer with sandals and no coat.

timetodecide2345 · 10/09/2024 17:11

Just ordered the green Richmond trousers. Size 14. Of course when they arrived I couldn't get into them despite being a size 14 in every other store!

They look great if you are built like a rake. Otherwise forget it!

timetodecide2345 · 10/09/2024 17:12

Also the green was yuk! Found a pair in John Lewis! For a third of the price!

EyeRolling23 · 10/09/2024 17:12

It's probably the shade on the first pic @CoffeeAndStripedtops . If you like the colour as shown elsewhere the first pic looks muddy and has almost orange undertones.
I love them!

Garlictest · 10/09/2024 17:14

Boden is terrible for mis-describing colours, but I have noticed it's an epidemic among retailers lately.

'Brown' is tan, beige, biscuit, even pale cream. If you can find an actual brown, it's 'chocolate' or 'chestnut' although those terms won't give any clue as to the depth or tone of the colour.

'Purple' is bright pink. Actual purples are called 'violet'.

'Green' is usually lime or grass green, or may be yellow. 'Forest' is any old shade of green, usually a bright one or khaki.

And filtering products by colour doesn't work! I've found loads of garments that don't appear in any results by colour, presumably because they've been entered in the database under something like chestnut or violet, which doesn't feature in the colour filter.

It's not like colours are an important factor when selecting clothes, after all ...!

@TorroFerney , did you add a couple of hashes to your post?

Purple and lilac tends to suit elderly complexions, I think, so it's more popular with older women.

This is my issue too, not sure which is the correct color. I also live in the EU, so once I order I tend to keep due to high postage costs (unless doing a big order and returning several pieces).
I might just wait until I'm in London in October and go their actual shop...

Good point. My winter coats collection consists of a long red Reiss coat and a shorter tourquise one from Zara, neither of them would go with purple.
But to be honest I tend to wear these trousers to the office which has a parking next door, so I usually just wear a black leather jacket or a blazer on top.

I think the colour's nice, but I wouldn't be getting them because of the fabric composition. If you say you have several of these trousers that you're happy with and they haven't changed what fabric they're made from, go ahead. Too synthetic for me.

Red would go with purple! Not necessarily every red with every purple, admittedly, but it could work. I have a pair of purple linen trousers (a richer and darker purple than these Boden trousers in the link) and they go great with red t-shirts! Likewise have a red pair of shorts that goes well with a purple sleeveless top I have.

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 10/09/2024 18:10

£80 for trousers?? 😶

CheerfulBunny · 10/09/2024 18:48

Eighty pounds quid for a pair of jersey trousers?! Lordy...
(misses the point of the thread)

They are pink to my eye. Difficult to match up with other colours. I would of wore those in the 90's, when I was very thin and into bright trouser suits. You already have the best 2 colours.

Frith2013 · 10/09/2024 20:37

It's a no from me (the cut, not the colour).

Lelophants · 10/09/2024 20:48

I think because purple
can be an ‘old’ colour. I just can’t work out if I like the shade personally.

Shadow12345 · 10/09/2024 21:38

No from me, they wont match with anything!!

Yes red can go with purple and look gorgeous but not these particular "purple" trousers.

You’re slim and young enough to carry these off..go for it…so nice to see some bright colours for a change ..everything is so drab/jeans/ black /grey in trousers nowadays. And the green ones lovely for Autumn winter.

Oh not intentionally but thank you.

They look more fuchsia than purple to me. In any event, I find them much too bright.

Edited

I was expecting dark purple.

Liberty once had a large pure silk scarf massively discounted in a sale- Stupidly I bought it and mum said it looked like something out of a funeral parlour!

I couldn't un see that after she'd said it and could never wear the scarf- it was so warm and soft, but the colour was just too.......Purple. {as in Cleric purple}

Rubydoobydoobydoo · 11/09/2024 12:07

Oooh, that's a difficult cold-looking colour for many people to pull off: it would make me look quite blue-skinned and pasty. It's more likely to suit someone with an olive or darker complexion. It's more mauve than purple: purple is a much darker, richer range of colour. It might work with a very plain neutral sweater but I think it's going to get very shouty paired with any strong colour that isn't tonal. The trousers might work with a burgundy sweater or a lilac one or a genuine purple one (depends on the exact colour they turn out to be, it's impossible to tell from the photos) but I'm finding to difficult to think what else you could wear with them that wouldn't end up looking clashy and loud. Which may not be a problem for you, OP, if you can pull strong colour off.
