Removing gel

So i have been trying to remove gel polish myself using acetone and wrapping them in the cotton wool lined foils. I then try to file them down but have used a normal nail file and it's not working great . What do i need to do? I don't really want to shell out on an electric file if possible! Thanks

Did you file before soaking? If not, do that to take off the top coat/shine and the soaking should be more effective.

Once soaked the polish should come away easily with only a little scraping with something gentle like an orange stick.

I'd steer clear of an electric file unless trained properly as could do some real damage.
