Decent quality satin skirt

I would like to buy a satin skirt and can see them in lots of shops. Looking on instagram they seem to be of varying quality.

Can anyone recommend one that is-
Navy, burgundy (not rust) or deep emerald
Cut nicely so that there is no puckering along the bias
Has a decent waist band that sits flat on the waist (some seen to have a really thin elastic waist band)
Is of nice quality material that drapes properly rather than clinging and showing your knickers.
Max budget £70

I’ve been looking at everywhere from New Look to Ghost and am overwhelmed.

I don't think I have any that fit your criteria, but thought I would show you what I do wear, in case other colours become available.

This Arket Skirt - I have it in the black, and it's very easy to wear and a good weight. The cream is in your budget, and other colours seem to occasionally come up and go out of season.

This Zara skirt is a great price, a good weight, and a good colour. The shape might not be right for you, and it's a little rustly on- not satin but a 'technical' material I think it's called.

I find that's lots of the skirts aren't heavy enough, but both of these are and neither cling.

Maxi Satin Skirt - Black - ARKET GB

Maxi skirt with a clean design and a flattering, straight fit. Detailed with an elasticated waistband.

That arket skirt looks nice but I should have added I’m 5’4” and usually take a petite length in trousers. I suspect that skirt would trail on the floor.

I’m not a fan of the Zara skirt- the waistband is too gathered for me.

I bought the M&S one last year in black and I have worn and worn it. One of my most successful purchases

I can’t get that link to work! Please could you post a screenshot of what it is or try again? Thanks!

The M&S one is good and has a properly flat waistband. It’s too short on me (6’) but will likely work for you.

It sounds very old-fashioned but wearing a slip underneath makes a huge difference to the way it hangs.

tangledzebra · 09/09/2024 08:41

I would recommend M&S as well- item number T508237T (sorry it won’t let me link). Not all sizes are in stock in the burnt sienna but perhaps keep an eye out if they don’t have your size, Im 5ft 2, I have the pink and it falls beautifully. I have to wear heels but that’s ok as I wear it more as an evening, rather than day to day

I’m shorter than you at 160cms and I have the Arket skirt in midi and it’s great. Feels high quality, fits well and is very flattering.

tangledzebra · 09/09/2024 08:49

i just realised you said not rust and this is more a rust than a burgundy (sorry!). But it’s a good satin skirt in case anyone is looking for a rust or pink skirt.

You need this - the navy is beautiful, comes with a slip, and in a petite length. Well within budget but doesn’t look cheap.

I noticed there was one in Next as I walked past last week (lovely colour- burgundy ish I would say) Maybe worth a look, as they do petite size too .

piccolorhinoceros · 09/09/2024 15:34

Ghost definitely, I have two and they're great, very flattering. I'm 5'2

Tanaqui · 09/09/2024 18:45

I have last years new look version, the waistband is thin elastic but it hangs well (I wear tights under but no slip), and was £15- I've had lots of compliments and asking where I got it, so I would recommend at least trying theirs on!

TheBers2024 · 09/09/2024 21:23

Very cross. I gave my lovely satin skirt to the charity shop this year as I hadn't worn it for years. And of course now they are back.

thecrossiamwearing · 09/09/2024 21:32

@ForSaleChesterDraws you need a slip 😂😂😂

Me too in an olive colour but yet to be worn. It's a lovely skirt.

Thank you! Have ordered the New Look one (in green and navy) as it’s silly not to try it based on comments above. I think I’ll try the Ghost one next if needed!
