Holiday dresses for apple shaped

Cloakanddagger101 · 08/09/2024 19:09

I’m looking for some new dresses to wear in the evening for a holiday in Crete, but it’s out of season now so I’m struggling to find anything nice in a 14/16.

I’m also conscious that the weather is cooling down in Crete so don’t want anything too summery.

Has anyone seen anything nice in the sales that would suit the occasion and also hide my big apple belly?

Lots of lovely things still available! It depends mostly on your budget.

If you have plenty to spend

Doen

has a few things that would flatter your shape and fit into an autumn wardrobe once you return. This would be great with jeans / trousers too.

At a slightly lower price point this

Toast dress

seems perfect for your purposes - would just need layering above and beneath to extend its use. Toast seems to have a good few season transition dresses.

This

Cos dress has a wonderfully holiday look to it - but again can be made more workaday later on.

These are all the type of things I’d look for even if working with a much smaller budget.

What is your budget? plenty of sales on that you could pick up dresses in.
Those suggested dresses are overpriced shapeless sacks, deary me.

Cloakanddagger101 · 09/09/2024 06:48

Sorry I’d say I’ve got roughly £150 to spend on 3 dresses.

John Lewis still has reduced dresses- just filter by size.

Tu is usually quite dependable

I've also got the adele dress, good for slightly cooler evenings. If between sizes, I'd go down in that one.

Morrisons have strapped maxi dresses reduced from £15 to £8 I took one away with me on holiday and just bought all the other 3 colours. Lovely and floaty and wash really well, then also don’t crease.

I was going to say something very similar. Both hideous, and at rip-off prices too.

cornflower123 · 09/09/2024 18:51

It'll still be hot in Crete! Nothing clingy needed.
Those loose fitting M&S dresses look perfect. And definitely don't need to spend too much.

I have 2 of this dress (navy and dark pink) and they are very flattering on a peri menopause middle and easy to wear.

😂 I'm not sure she needs to cover up her entire body! From one apple to another, don't spoil your holiday by buying any of these!

ToriTheStoryteller · 09/09/2024 22:08

I bought this for my holiday, and I'm very appley at the moment.😂

Loved it, so flattering because of the neckline and I used the belt through the loops and back to the centre back, if that makes sense. Then you are bringing in the back to create shaping but not tieing it over your tummy.

It looks so much better in real life, if I'd only seen it online I might not have bothered!

Place marking, going away in October

Cloakanddagger101 · 10/09/2024 13:50

Thank you for all the suggestions, I’ve been looking at all the links and the fat face dress is definitely more my style, but the colouring wouldn’t suit me unfortunately.

It did send me down a bit of a rabbit hole and I really like this Dress from nobody’s child. I’m blonde and fair skinned though so not sure the colouring will suit me though.

Fat face do that dress in other colours have a look on Vinted if sold out.

morningtoncrescent62 · 10/09/2024 18:07

I've been keeping an eye on this thread for the recommendations - I'm very apple-shaped. Sadly, I'm apple-shaped with turkey wings for upper arms, so all those lovely sleeveless dresses aren't for me! I'm very envious of all you apples who can wear them, and OP, I hope you have a lovely holiday.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 10/09/2024 22:36

I'm also apple shaped and have recommended this dress a couple of times. It travelled surprisingly well and is very flattering. I'm just under 5'5" and it's knee length on me. I'm also blonde and fair skinned and the colour works well.

Christ, those are the most ugly shapeless dresses. They will do nothing to flatter her figure. Whatever you do don't buy those. There are far better dresses out there. I will say try on a variety of dresses. Wrap dresses and be very flattering as you can pull the waist in as needed.
