GHDs broken !! <<faint>> best alternative??

ImightbeLulumama · 19/04/2008 10:45

apparently a new pair is now £150 !!!

cannot quite stretch to that right now, so any tips for 'almost as good as, but not as eye wateringly expensive as GHDs' please!

i know it is a false economy as GHDs aer the best, but i cannot live without straighteners whilst i save up for GHDs

how long did they last??

is it really a flase economy to get some cheper ones?

SlightlyMadSweet · 19/04/2008 10:47

Bablyliss Pro230 wear retailing at about £40 not so long ago.

If you check places like review centre etc. on them they get as good as if not better ratings than Ghds - and from people that have had both.

SlightlyMadSweet · 19/04/2008 10:48

Some of the positive comments about the Pro230's were that they were more robust than Ghds.

ImightbeLulumama · 19/04/2008 10:51

had them just 2 years and 4 months !!

i have a babyliss hairdryer and it is crapola!

Ebay

Either She or H2D.
Both good GHD substitutes.

I paid £105 for the new GHD's and got a heat mat and protector spray and next day delivery.

SlightlyMadSweet · 19/04/2008 10:53

I have the Babyliss Pro230 and they are great.

I have never had Ghds though so can't compare them.

ImightbeLulumama · 19/04/2008 10:54

£100 just not doable right now

just read some reviews on te babyliss ones and they seem to be very popular and as good if not better than GHDs

thanks !

where did you get them SMS? do they 'pull' the hair or glide?

OP posts:
SlightlyMadSweet · 19/04/2008 10:56

They glide on my hair....but the onlyuother ones I have every had were Babyliss Pro210 which were crapola...

I got mine from Makro. I think they were at about £40 in Amazon and Boots recently (Jan/Feb). Not sure if it was a special offer.

SlightlyMadSweet · 19/04/2008 10:58

Amazon.

They are £60 in Boots ATM.

They sound cheap but when they first came out they were £70/80. They have only come down in proce because they have a new gold set out.

ImightbeLulumama · 19/04/2008 11:00

thanks, they are £38.99 in argos at the mo, so i think i will reserve them

ImightbeLulumama · 19/04/2008 11:03

thanks , they get a good write up on the review centre... thanks for the help

schneebly · 19/04/2008 11:04

lulumamma email ghd and tell them dont reveal how long youve had them for and they might fix them?

foxythesnowfox · 19/04/2008 11:09

got mine here

cheapest I could find. My first ghds and better than anything else i've tried.

ImightbeLulumama · 19/04/2008 11:11

still £100 foxy......

i thikn for £100 they should last longer

i am going to send them back to GHD and they can have a look and see if they can repair them, i still have the origional box and bubble wrap they came in !

OP posts:
katz · 19/04/2008 11:14

i think ghd come with a decnt length guaruntee - might be worth checking.

foxythesnowfox · 19/04/2008 11:18

Yes, I think you should give ghd a go at repairing/replacing them.

I've heard a few instances where they've blown up. It might be a fault if they are a couple of years old and they might replace them, you never know!

ImightbeLulumama · 19/04/2008 11:38

thanks, i will tkae a chance and send them back.

OP posts:
iamdingdong · 19/04/2008 11:40

I sent mine back for 'repair' costing £43 and got a new pair in return, worth a try, ring them first!

ImightbeLulumama · 19/04/2008 11:40

thank you ! will ring on monday

OP posts:
janmoomoo · 21/04/2008 12:52

There is someone on ebay advertising that they repair them. Apparently it is easy to repair and I think they were charging about 25 quid. GHDs have a common fault where it seems like a loose connection and they go on and off.

I sold my broken ones on ebay for 25 quid before I realised you could get them fixed, and someone bought them and repaired them and sold them on. So if you do get some different ones, put your faulty ones on ebay and get some of the money back.

GHD's rule BTW!
