GHDs broken !! <<faint>> best alternative??

ImightbeLulumama · 19/04/2008 10:45

apparently a new pair is now £150 !!!

cannot quite stretch to that right now, so any tips for 'almost as good as, but not as eye wateringly expensive as GHDs' please!

i know it is a false economy as GHDs aer the best, but i cannot live without straighteners whilst i save up for GHDs

right, i bought the babyliss ones today. they are great, but one big fatal flaw, and i shall be returning them tomorrow, where the on /off switch, is where you need to hold the straighteners to actualyl use them, so kept switching them off. very, very annoying and not user friendly.

don;t know what to get now.....

will send GHDs back though for repair

any thoughts???

She = identical, approx £50.

ChocolateRockingHorse · 21/04/2008 16:19

LOADS of good alternatives around now.

I have a VidalSassoon pair currently - about £25, had them about a year or more, used daily.

Do a better job than some GHDs I have come across.

binkleandflip · 21/04/2008 16:19

Remington ones are suprisingly good and very inexpensive particularly the large plate ones. I would even go as far as to say they are better than my old GHD's

Tinker · 21/04/2008 16:21

Something to do with GHD losing teh patent on teh technology (could be talking out of bottom here, only half-listening when someone telling me) However, lots of just as good copycats now. My She were bought frrm a hairdresser who used to use GHDs. These made in teh same factory, allegedly. Have a feeling "they" all say that...

CarGirl · 21/04/2008 16:21

The babybliss pro 230 are currently on offer in Tesco for £40, they def glide through my hair

ImightbeLulumama · 21/04/2008 16:26

those are the one i have, the babyliss pro ones, with the daft switch !

will look at the remington ones

thank you all

MrsMattie · 21/04/2008 16:57

I've just bought some SHE straighteners for £50 from my hairdresser. My dd1, who knows about these things, reckons they are 'ace'. I was also told they roll off the same production line as GHD's.

Tinker · 21/04/2008 17:22

Here Hair dressers shoudl be able to order for you

Tinker · 21/04/2008 17:22

suedonim · 21/04/2008 17:28

Ooh Tinker, thanks for that link; I feel soooo trendy now I know the pink ones I have are limited edition!

chocolatespiders · 21/04/2008 17:28

the she ones are the ones my mobile hairdresser uses, he rates them much higher than ghd's...even though i love my ghd's i will try these when mine break

ImightbeLulumama · 21/04/2008 17:32

oooh, they do look good, but i cannot wait ! i need them NOWWWWWW!! have found the remington straight at a stroke ones in argos, and i should be able to swap the ones i bough today, am going to email babyliss though and tell them about their design flaw

OP posts:
chocolatespiders · 21/04/2008 17:35

have you got a hairdresser wholesale place near you, as they normally sell them...

or a place called sally hair and beauty

ImightbeLulumama · 21/04/2008 17:36

i do, actually, i might try in there too

OP posts:
chocolatespiders · 21/04/2008 17:39

it is worth giving them a ring to ask...

good luck.... i do feel for you

can you tie your hair up?

i worry about mine breaking as my hair is to short to tie up and looks so awful not staightened..

ImightbeLulumama · 21/04/2008 18:48

i can tie it back, but it looks abysmal !

OP posts:
random · 21/04/2008 18:51

How long have you had them? my daughter sent hers back to get them repaired and they sent her a new pair

MissingMyHeels · 21/04/2008 18:59

She is a company set up by the ex wife of Mr GHD, hence why she can use the technology.

This is what I heard anyway. Friends love them!

ImightbeLulumama · 21/04/2008 19:57

cool ! i see. that sounds intriguing!

i shall absolutely be sending back my GHDs, i expected them to last a lot longer than this

in the meantime, i cannot manage without

OP posts:
ImightbeLulumama · 21/04/2008 19:58
