At what temperature does your winter coat come out?

Just looking at the forecast for the week and it's getting down to 15c on Wednesday.

What do we need to get down to to get our nice coats back out?

7C.

15C is mild!!

Doggymummar · 07/09/2024 22:20

I had mine on a couple of times in August walking the dog early morning. Heating comes on when it goes below 18 in the house

EigerTheTiger · 07/09/2024 22:28

5c

until then it’s a gilet

Dreamerinme · 07/09/2024 22:30

8c

EternallyDelighted · 07/09/2024 22:31

About 8°C. 15 is still tee short weather (I run hot, always have done).

sleepingtoprocess · 07/09/2024 22:32

Is that it then weather wise it’s just autumn now ? No September heatwave ? 😭

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 07/09/2024 22:32

Bahaha. My proper winter coat?

-30

ChilliPB · 07/09/2024 22:35

15 degrees for me is probably either a jumper or a jacket. It’s been 15 here today and I just wore a jumper. If it was lower I’d probably wear a jumper and a jacket. I would wear more of a winter coat if it was lower than 10 degrees or so. Probably November time I’d be moving to a winter coat.

purpleme12 · 07/09/2024 22:37

12 maybe? That's a guess. Maybe even a bit colder. I'll see! Before that I just wear my raincoat.
I have two actual coats. One is a nautica one which is so cosy and warm so I leave that one for when it gets really cold. Other one is still warm but not compared to the other one!

mynameiscalypso · 07/09/2024 22:41

What will happen - because it happens every year - is that I overestimate my need for a winter coat too early and when it's too mild. And I will do that several times. And then I will be hot and sweaty and cross with myself.

henlake7 · 07/09/2024 22:55

Probably 10c or lower, until then it's jumpers, jackets and gilets.

DanglingMod · 07/09/2024 22:57

About 5 for a wool coat or thick puffer?

5-15 is a mac or thin puffer or denim jacket.

15 plus is no coat

Lol ...me too

Pascha · 07/09/2024 23:02

I agree with 5°. Any higher than that is a jumper or tshirt and gilet.

Beepybopp · 07/09/2024 23:02

Ok so still jacket weather! This is good news. I bought a leather jacket last year that barely got any wear so I'll make sure to use it this year!

This was me until I clocked that at 10c I start to value a coat. That's not very cold, but I live near the sea and the damp humidity makes me cold. I've got jackets and cardigans until then, and at 10 c the long wool coats come out. At some point I then need my proper winter down, hooded coat ... but last year I only wore it once.

Enoughwiththisshit · 07/09/2024 23:45

In my younger days, the coat would come out at the beginning of November. Now I'm a fat, sweaty perimenopausal woman so it's going to need to be pretty damn cold and windy to warrant wearing it.

overgrowntoddler · 08/09/2024 00:18

Big coat 5*c

Until then just a t shirt

purpleme12 · 08/09/2024 00:19

From t shirt to big coat, quite a jump 😂

Mairzydotes · 08/09/2024 08:32

Not yet.

I go gradually. So like leather jacket, then I add scarf and gloves, especially in the mornings.

It depends on situation. I'd wear a coat at the coast but not around town.

Like pp , it's the damp, rather than temp as such .

I save my insulated coat for when it's extremely cold

redtrain123 · 08/09/2024 08:44

I gradually evolve. Presently it T-shirt, with cardigan if cooker in evening. Then I’ll go to light jacket when going out, and then late October I’ll do the switch to winter , unless it gets cold sooner. The seasons have shifted, so even on Guy Fawkes night, it can be 15+ degrees now (and 18 one year).

LaurieFairyCake · 08/09/2024 09:15

It's leather jacket or thin jumper weather from basically now to November

If I wear a jacket now I will be wearing it for five minutes and then taking it off 🤦‍♀️

Coats from December to March for me (I have loads of lovely coats)

Also fat sweaty and menopausal!

SallyWD · 08/09/2024 10:12

Less than 10 degrees (approximately). It's nit just temperature, it depends on things like wond and rain top. I have autumn/spring coats too fir those in between temperatures.
