I’ve found myself in a total style rut lately and would love some new inspo.

I’ve become quite androgynous in clothes over the last couple of years so don’t wear skirts or dresses now and tend to wear trainers, Chelsea boots and chunky heeled boots with variations on black jeans and tailored trousers with vests in summer and wool jumpers in winter.

I’d like to add some more feminine touches and some more colour as I tend to live in black now.

I have looked at style inspo for people my age (45+) and it’s predominantly beautifully styled women with blonde hair and blow drys, wearing floral and brightly coloured stuff I associate with my mothers age group.

I don’t shop in real life shops any more as it’s either stuff I think my mum would like or stuff that is so 90s it feels dated to me, as I was wearing this stuff what seems like not very long ago!

Has anyone got any suggestions? I feel like a slob at the moment but think if I went with what’s currently been suggested I’d look frumpy or like a children’s tv presenter on the skids.

I’m very broad shouldered with big boobs which makes tops difficult, as a square neckline makes me look like the prow of a ship, v necks like I’m on the pull and frills like a mad fringed lizard on defence.

Peri meno has done a number on my middle so can look like an egg in legs if I wear anything tight fitting.

Suggestions very welcome!!

Bit like this:

Celine portraits?

Do you really need blogs? I also do about 98% of my clothes shopping online (and have done for about twenty years) and I find frequent browsing of the very best shopping sites I know is really the best way of keeping on top of what’s available, what’s in style, what will work for me. And whether I need to pay full price right now, stalk a sale, browse Vestiaire or let something remain a delightful fantasy. For newness - the FT / Times / NYT / Vogue / Vogue Runway app, etc, plus the very odd foray into instagram.

So I’m probably not answering your question!

Brands that spring to mind (for inspiration or shopping) from your description of your style include:

Celine (as above)
Lemaire
Toogood
Eat Dust Clothing
B Sides
Teurn Studios
YMC
Margaret Howell
Acne Studios
Closed
La Fetiche
Petar Petrov

(Inevitably someone will come along expressing apoplexy at my forcing you to spend a million pounds on a shirt. I’m not - I’m just saying that if you regularly invest a bit of time on these sorts of sites (or others that you prefer) you’ll inevitably expand your range of ideas. Without needing some random blogger to make you feel bad about all her gifted promotional clobber.)

By the way, what size are you?

Have a look at The Silver Kat on Instagram, she’s definitely not a floral blonde.

TRINNY does some good videos about wardrobe inspiration. I’m not her build but have got lots of ideas from her.

@BetsyRegards This is so helpful thank you! That’s such a good idea to look at the brand sites rather than bloggers. I end up feeling infinitely worse when I do, as I wonder if I stopped maturing my dress sense at 25!

Currently a 14 in pretty much all high street sizes - hoping to whittle it down a little but it will be a slow process so not worried about investing in pieces now, as even at my thinnest I have a wide set bone structure and 14 fits better than a 12 even with a stone off.

Will have a lovely evening browsing the sites!

@BangingOn Thank you!

@greengreyblue Trinny makes me feel like I am totally stunted in my clothing tastes. She feels too grown up for me, which I know is silly!

Wearsmymoney is good. I get a weekly email with a link to her style roundup.

I was going to suggest wears my money too.

If you are on Instagram Club forty Claire, and Diary of a midlife crisis might be worth a look too. I think Club forty Claire has some great tips and I love her size by side feature where she shows an item worn by her and one worn by Neens from rants and big pants.
