Kaai Pyramid bag

I've been searching for ages for the perfect work bag - leather, fits a 15" laptop, has pockets - and although it's more than I'd planned to spend, the Kaai Pyramid bag might actually tick all the boxes.

Does anyone have one? Anyone ordered from the Kaai website? I'm not thrilled about their £50 fee to process a return so want to do lots of research!

I've seen it in store, I find it quite heavy on its own. With a laptop in I'd personally find it far too much weight to carry on my shoulder. Form commuting with public transport anyhow, maybe it's doable if you're just doing a short trip in and out of a car.

Thistooshallpass24 · 06/09/2024 21:05

@firebrand123 they look cheap, I was surprised by the price, also no way would I buy from somewhere that changes £50 to " process a return"

AuntieDolly · 06/09/2024 21:30

Is the £50 fee even legal?

They're based in the Netherlands I think, so maybe it is there? I don't know. Some UK companies do charge a fee but it's usually only a few quid. £50 is a lot (understatement)!

This is super helpful, thanks. I've been put off other totes thinking they'd be too light to carry things without digging into my shoulder, etc, but this might be too far the other way. I only have a short walk each side of the train, but still...

Have you seen them in person? I find it so hard to gauge how they really look from online pics.

@firebrand123 Someone I know had one as a gift and gave it away ( I bet she didn't know it cost that!) it has a Primark look to it I would have guessed under £60 , and I love bags I've got a handbag room!

firebrand123 · 06/09/2024 21:39

@Thistooshallpass24 wow ok, that's not good!!! I don't suppose you can recommend a similar size/style bag that is good quality?

Thistooshallpass24 · 06/09/2024 21:45

@firebrand123 I don't need a business bag, I tend to just have bags I've got vintage bags from 1940s, vintage mulberry bags, hand made leather, one offs kind of vibes.
Nomo bags are practical and long lasting ( not hugely pretty but a good work bag)
Depending on your budget you might be able to get something made to your exact needs, so you might want slightly shorter and wider strep to help with weight distribution etc (often it's not as expensive as you might think)
I realise nomo is very different from your original choice, but I do really rate them

firebrand123 · 06/09/2024 21:53

Thanks @Thistooshallpass24 😊

I’ve just bought a coach willow tote. Very pleased with it though it only has one zipped inner compartment.

This is a great laptop bag that converts to a shoulder bag. Beautiful quality and not too heavy

She was an IT manager that couldn't find the perfect bag!

Thistooshallpass24 · 06/09/2024 23:09

@ADHDHDHDHD that's an "interesting" perfect bag (imo)! it's pretty busy with all its hardware again can't believe the price!

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 06/09/2024 23:50

Hmm I don't think that fussy tassle is going to work given the sleek minimalist bag the OP has posted.

BillyNoProblems · 07/09/2024 07:33

I have been looking at the Kaai bag for ages, have added it to the basket many times but not followed through. I have never seen one in person, they must be uncommon in the UK. I work in central London so see a lot of bags out and about!

The £50 is customs fees and paperwork following Brexit (returns are free in the EU), can't really complain about something that is self-inflicted so to speak! One of the many consequences we now have to live with.

Anyway, thanks for starting the thread, maybe someone will come along who actually has a pyramid bag

Kelly51 · 07/09/2024 07:43

Amazon £60, personally wouldn't want real leather/dead cow

These are amazing & the firehouse ones are incredibly strong-

See that one is a bit like the DeMellier New York for me - nice bag, but absolutely no organisation/pockets so everything just gets chucked in. I'd have that in a mess in no time!

firebrand123 · 07/09/2024 08:05

@ADHDHDHDHD thanks, I love the inside of that one but the tassel and chain aren't really me. Thanks though, always good to see alternatives!

firebrand123 · 07/09/2024 08:13

@BillyNoProblems I'm not sure the £50 is UK specific but your explanation would make sense in that regard. There only seems to be one Kaai stockist and it's a random boutique, which probably explains why we don't see them.

@RobinEllacotStrike I have seen those but I'm definitely a monochrome kind of gal!

@Abra1tgood to know you're getting on with your Coach bag. I've looked at them but not seen one that's grabbed me yet, will keep an open mind though.

@Kelly51 I wouldn't normally buy leather but I've given it a lot of thought from a sustainability perspective and decided it is best give its overall longevity brings the carbon footprint right down, especially with a brand that's European made and offers lifetime repairs.

I really like the look of that bag and love the pockets to organise the bag but I wouldn't have a tote for a commute.

I can't recommend one but I'd want a really nice backpack instead with maybe a small tote for easy access on train etc.

firebrand123 · 07/09/2024 08:25

@fortheveryfirsttime I've actually been using a tote until now, it's just a more casual bag and now I'm starting a new, more formal, job I want a nicer one. I wouldn't say no to a backpack but I haven't seen one I like other than one by Been which is no longer available!

I think Kaai is Belgian, I know they have a boutique in Antwerp, anyhow. When they first started their most expensive bag was no more than €350, I personally don't think their current prices present a lot of value for money but bag prices overall are a bit weird at the moment.

The only brand I can think of with similar styles that makes laptop specific bags is US based Cuyana. They also have lots of extra accessories that snap in for further organisation bliss. They do send DDP (but you'll only see the added costs at checkout) so no scary bill upon import but the return policy isn't great for international customers (they don't refund the import fees/vat) so you'd be out at least as much as £50 like with Kaai, if not more.

Everlane used to have some too but they don't advertise any of their bags for laptops anymore. There might be some on Vinted though?
