Honestly with that rings history I wouldn't have touched it with a barge pole as an engagement ring. especially post cancer. Let it go into the tower of London collection. Ditto Elizabeth's ring.

I'm somewhat superstitious though .

I inherited my granny's wedding ring - she suffered through many many years of an awful abusive marriage and eventually divorced in her 70s. I sold it to be melted down and bought myself something to remember her by with the money. I'm not particularly superstitious but I wouldn't want anyone to start a marriage with something that has seen so much unhappiness. I think the jeweller I sold it must have thought I was slightly unhinged as I checked about 5 times that it would be melted down and not resold.

AllTangledUpInMyMonkeyNutNecklace · 12/10/2024 12:23

I can see why William wanted to give that ring to Catherine, but I definitely agree that now is a good time to retire it.

That orange coat is gorgeous. Something not quite right with the length of the coat and dress but can't put my finger on what is 'off'.

I agree with you @justasking111 - the big sapphire should be consigned to a museum, vault or The Tower. I wouldn't want to wear it.

I love it too but I just think it's almost impossible to make a longer skirt than coat look right. Generally stick with the rule that dresses/skirts should not show.

My mother once found a wedding ring in the gutter. She brought it home and hung it up in the garage, contacted the local paper just incase. She wouldn't have it in the house.

More pictures of Mary for a closer look at colours/fabrics/accessories. Very well done IMO - I am a big fan of interesting colour matches that still really work, as opposed to more classic pairings. There would have been nothing wrong with a more classic navy/black/chocolate brown coat here but the orange is much, much nicer IMO. Love the suede boots to go with the floaty dress.

Sophie looking wonderful in glasses, pink jumper and matching nails reading the CBeebies bedtime story.

I have to admit that I listened to it all - would highly recommend it for a relaxing 10 minute break - she is very good!

That's a nice recommendation, @RomainingToBeSeen 😊
She does look lovely.

I think it is appropriate for it to be worn on State or important family occasions, perhaps. A way of having Diana’s presence as mother of the heir. I’ve said elsewhere that Diana loved that ring and wore it a lot even after her divorce. So I don’t see why anyone should feel superstitious about it if she didn’t 🤷‍♀️

AllTangledUpInMyMonkeyNutNecklace · 12/10/2024 16:39

That's true, and is a good compromise!

smilesy · 12/10/2024 16:43

Meant to add: it’s such a massive ring that it must be a bit of a pain to wear all the time as well. So I don’t blame Catherine for wearing something else

Sidebeforeself · 12/10/2024 17:01

I think she probably just likes mixing it up ring-wise.I think she said it was a great honour when William gave it to her and I can imagine what it meant to him. But our tastes change over the years etc. I certainly dont buy into the idea that its somehow spooky or cursed to wear it.

AllTangledUpInMyMonkeyNutNecklace · 12/10/2024 17:05

Nothing to do with superstition for me - it's just a big ring, very 80s/ostentatious and doesn't work very well for modern aesthetics IMO. Especially given all of Catherine's other rings tend towards the more simple and understated. I like it well enough and obviously I'd happily have it if offered 😁😁 but I'm not keen on some of the Diana worship stuff and there are also other connotations now that they might be trying to distance themselves from a bit. Pure speculation of course. I think she's probably still quite likely to wear it for big occasions.

Papergirl1968 · 12/10/2024 20:07

Leti and Felipe attended a military parade with Leonor. That guy behind Leti looks rather like Felipe but isn’t him - Felipe was in uninform.

I don’t think the Diana ring is particularly comfortable for the POW to wear. Large stones like the sapphire unbalance the ring. In a lot of pictures you can see she is fiddling with the ring using the thumb of the same hand. I do this when rings annoy me.

Eaumyword · 12/10/2024 22:40

Fab pic of Sophie and she does suit that shade of peachy pink. She looks great.

AllTangledUpInMyMonkeyNutNecklace · 12/10/2024 22:46

What colour would you say the boots are here (photo of burgundy dress/orange coat)
Are these the ones she wore with same colour outfit last Christmas?
I remember trying to get ones like them then, to no avail and they’re back to haunt me this winter!! Now I’ve looked them up, is it the same dress?
Remember the purple velvet jacket ‘in the snow’ portrait last winter too - it’s a very striking colour but hard to differentiate with the shades.
Now I’ve gone down a rabbit hole with this, what shades of purple are these (and where are those boots from?)

Yes looks like the same dress as she wore with the orange coat.

Her boots are apparently Aquazzura but no longer sold. She has had them for a few years. This site lists all the times she has worn them.

A royal connection. It looked nicer when she was moving than in the photo.

The length of the trousers is much better than what she usually wears but she shoulda caught the bus!

RockaLock · 13/10/2024 20:46

Yes, it would be an almost perfect outfit if only the trousers weren't so creased!

Papergirl1968 · 13/10/2024 22:25

My work trousers are a bit long (hem has come down and I’ve put a few small safety pins in as I can’t sew) and I nearly broke my neck tripping over them the other day. Luckily just managed to save myself from going flat on my face.

Eaumyword · 13/10/2024 22:31

I like the blue shirt but not keen on the crumpled long trousers.
I like the black collared dress worn by her companion in the photo.

Buy some of that wonder web that you can iron in to shorten your work trousers, then a few tiny safety pins for extra anchorage.
