Yes, exactly. They aren't waiting at a bus stop in the rain or running for the tube in those shoes. I'd wear them too if I was chauffeured about everyday!

Fred and Mary at a dinner. She looks lovely. A bit late 1990s coast I still like it though. hough. A diamond necklace is needed to make it stand out 💎

Edited

The dress I can take or leave but I really liked her GR shoes and fuchsia Prada bag for a bit of colour.

@KillingMeDeftIy I liked her shoes and bag too. Looking at the photos quickly I had thought the bag was black and was disappointed in that choice, so I'm glad to see it brought a good pop of colour.

Another outfit. I do love a jumpsuit.

That’s a sharp look from Mary in the jumpsuit! I like it very much.

KillingMeDeftIy · 27/09/2024 09:22

She rewore the jumpsuit just the other day, sans Fred and with the addition of grey suede pumps and a belt.

Thanks @KillingMeDeftIy I was sure I'd seen it very recently but the photo didn't come up for me when I looked (was too lazy to actually search). I think the black accessories work better. I like the suede shoes but not the bag - I think the colour's too warm for the suit, and a black bag would have worked better to keep it sharp.

KillingMeDeftIy · 27/09/2024 09:32

That's the bag she was carrying at another recent event and the colour just never seems to photograph correctly. It seems a much more vibrant green IRL.

Oh fair enough! Yes I did say that on the last outift, that it looked better on video than on photos, but it still didn't look anywhere near that colour which is an entirely different green and makes more sense with the grey.

justasking111 · 27/09/2024 11:05

I never got the hang of jumpsuits. Need the loo you have to completely peel off your top half and try not to let it touch the floor. One pub I went to very dark loo couldn't see much ended up dipping the collar of my top in cold liquid. Bleugh.

I stopped wearing it.

Fred visits Danish parliament with aunt. Gives impression of man put upon to escort elderly relative around museum.

😂

deeahgwitch · 26/09/2024 07:59

Oh my goodness @ArdMhaca the new Children's Hospital in Dublin 🙄
But if a bicycle shelter for 18 bikes at the parliament costs €336,000 why are we surprised by the cost overrun and its unfinished state.
No head roll - it's Ireland.

Mary looks fabulous.

I read yesterday that the project started in 1993 😱 and if you add up all of the costs since then (consultants reports , planning etc) that it is the most expensive building ever built 😱😱😱😱.

Sorry to derail - back to the topic, I love Mary’s pink and burgundy outfit, she looks so well.

I’m amazed that Sophie was Chairperson (or something) of the British Fashion council and yet doesn’t ever look ‘stylish’ - in the sense that she doesn’t seem to have her own sense of style, and doesn’t seem to have advisors or friends who can help her out.

I know she often looks good, but given that she is very, very pretty, she often looks uncomfortable, I wish she would find a few looks that she feels comfortable in and wear those. I know that she has a very different personality, but she could wear some of the stuff that Max does and look amazing.

I hope this makes sense - I’d love to help her find her style, she could be a real asset to the British fashion industry, but without being a slave to fashion.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 27/09/2024 13:34

I agree Shizus. She often wears objectively lovely clothes but too often doesn't combine them well, and/or they don't fit.

KillingMeDeftIy · 27/09/2024 13:49

Does Sophie have a stylist? She does seem to have a huge wardrobe so I don't think she's uninterested in clothes, but small changes like a better bra and tailoring stuff more would make such a difference.

AllTangledUpInMyMonkeyNutNecklace · 27/09/2024 08:30

They do it all the time so they're used to it. I used to wear them all the time and it was just as easy as wearing normal shoes. They also often don't actually stay at these events all day long - it's usually about 45 min to an hour. Or if it's a longer engagement there's usually lunch or an extended section where they sit. They're driven everywhere. So they're not on their feet for hours at a time.

Maybe expensive shoes are more comfortable? I don’t think I could wear towering heels now even for five minutes.
The late queen had someone to break in her shoes, didn’t she? Wonder if the others do too.
Agree Sophie looks nice in dresses. The suits and suit jackets she’s worn a couple of times this week aren’t flattering.

gingercat02 · 27/09/2024 14:22

Sophie is interesting. She often looks a little dull for want of a better word. She seems happier in out of the limelight roles and doesn't appear to be flashy. As mentioned many times here, she has quite low-level jewellery (and tiaras).

Mary is full-on loving being The Queen 👸 and looks great.

Maireas · 27/09/2024 16:38

I'm not keen on Mary's grey jumpsuit. It looks somewhat utilitarian, as if it's from a production of 1984. Again, the shoes don't seem to go.
I like those bright habdbags.

I agree with some of the comments about Sophie - when she gets it right she looks stunning but there's frequently something a bit 'off'.

In her defence I do find that this is a rubbish time of year to dress for. So far this week I've worn a summer dress, flip flops, boots, jeans, a big woolly jumper, a padded jacket, a lightweight cardigan, trainers, a long skirt and a pair of shorts. Not all at the same and on several occasions not at the right time.

ETA: Afraid I'm not keen on the grey jumpsuit - it puts me in mind of Thunderbirds...

AllTangledUpInMyMonkeyNutNecklace · 27/09/2024 17:55

I have a denim jumpsuit (along with a few others) that DH affectionately says makes me look like a machinist. 😄😄 I don't care, I like it. But they're not for everyone that's for sure!

Papergirl1968 · 27/09/2024 19:48

Mathilde and Philippe meeting the pope.
And I know he’s not royal (acting royalty maybe) but I couldn’t resist including a pic of Daniel Craig who appears to have transformed from James Bond to a down and out for Paris Fashion Week.

Well, that's a strange look, Daniel!

Daniel has turned into Gary Oldman!

Hoping this link works because our thread mascots met the Pope too.

So cute! And I like Stephanie's dress, too, though it looks horrible in the accompanying flattened-out format.

Iloveshihtzus · 27/09/2024 20:05

Oh Mathilde and the mascots look great - Daniel Craig, on the other hand … I hope the look is for a role, but even so, I’d prefer to rely on the costume department. Otherwise, it’s a very public mid life crisis.

RomainingToBeSeen · 27/09/2024 20:35

Thank you for the link @KillingMeDeftIy..

Seriously proud grandfather moment! 💙
