Gintime74 · 04/09/2024 12:50

Im looking for a soft cross body bag, black or brown leather ( or manmade) . It needs to be large enough to carry book, mobile, keys, small amount of make up. Ideally under £100 but can go above if really lovely. Thank you in advance

Have a look at the kipping bags. (Often on sale at amazon). I bought this one when it was reduced to £17.99 a few weeks ago in order to fit a book in. I have a smaller one which is lasting well.

Did you manage to find a bag? I'm thinking about starting a bag brand and would love to know what other features are important to you :)

Just don't wear it to a certain pub in Canterbury. It had a sign saying no cross body bags! Unfortunately I don't remember the name of it.

Somebody here on MN linked to fat face bags and I was very impressed.

I have a couple of Pom Pom London bags, they're great.

Sewliketosew · 05/09/2024 16:42

Pom pom are nice though pricey.
Fat face also have nice leather bags. I like this, it's a rucksack but straps can be moved so possibly an alternative to the usual back pack. Beautiful autumn oxblood colour too.

A few things for me:

  • bag must close. The tote style bags that have no zip compartments are pointless (aspinal) if you commute
  • the straps should be the same quality and not finished with plastic (like my coach bag that frays and then costs £70 to repair)
  • they should hold the right kit… cross body should fit keys, phone, card, lippy… tote should fit a laptop (Kate spade bag doesn’t)
  • some bags have an integrated key ring which makes finding keys so much easier
  • little pockets for mobile phones (2), work pass and train pass

I'm baffled by this!! 😕

This is super useful thank you! Would you expect to get a water bottle in a cross body bag too or just the listed items? :)

Does it have to be leather? I have various Kipling bags which seem to be love or hate but for me they are perfect.

The Gabby S is a great sized smaller bag but probably wouldn't fit a large book.

The Gabby is a size up and usually my work bag. In it I have a large toiletry bag which contains the world which I take to work and leave there all week, a water bottle, sunglasses case, purse, also fits a large hardback book and a water bottle but not with the large toiletry bag in it.

I recently got an Art M? I think it is, a bit bigger than the Gabby so I also managed to put my daily essentials and my work boots (ankle boot wedges) There was still room in there for other stuff too.

I wouldn't want to cart around any if them stuffed for hours on end but my commute is 40+ minutes depending on how quick the kids walk to school!

I also have a bigger Art for travelling but it's not crossbody.

Thank you all, I actually have only just got around to reading the comments as we had a bit of a family issue. I will have a good look now, looks like there are some good options.

I really need a light bag so that I’m not carrying unnecessary weight, comfortable straps, not too narrow. Zip compartments. I prefer soft leather to a structured bag. Good luck With your venture.

I bought a Rowdy crossbody bag https://www.rowdybags.co.uk/collections/leather-crossbody-bags - I absolutely love it. Its got one deep pocket inside for keys/phone, and it zips shut, and having both handles and a strap makes it very versatile. You can fit a lot in it, but it also looks good if there's hardly anything in it. It's not cheap, but the leather is lovely and it should age well.

I would like to request that the hardware comes in silver, not just brass. I've vetoed so many lovely bags because the rest of my colours are grey, navy, black, cobalt etc and the brass hardware doesn't work with them.

Ihatemondays1962 · 21/09/2024 17:51

I rate the fatface bags too,i just bought one recently and it's good quality.

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 21/09/2024 17:54

I always recommend Elvis and Kresse. I have two bags but covet more. They give to charity out of their profits which I think is a great idea.

I wouldn’t expect to fit a water bottle in a cross body bag no, I think of a cross body bag for purse, keys, phone.

I like a zip top, and an inside zip pocket for tampons. A front zip pocket for my phone would be good too.
