Finally had my colours done professionally - I had self diagnosed as soft summer, but turns out I am soft autumn. Now I’ve been told it is glaringly obvious.

Any established soft autumns got any recommendations for lipsticks?

Also have you spotted anything nice in the shops? I’ve been browsing online this morning and found this Fat Face jacket:

https://www.fatface.com/women/clothing/coats-jackets/bethany-quilted-biker-jacket/0003505.html?dwvar_0003505_color=DKTEALGRN&cgid=women-clothing-coats-and-jackets#pagination=true&start=26

but it’s out of stock in my size!

I'm also a soft autumn and I find Lisa Eldridge's lipstick range has some great colours. L'Oréal lipsticks also tend to have a good range of warm colours. I like brick red or red with an orange base. I can also wear a clear red with neutral undertones such as Dior 999.

I'm also soft autumn. Which Lisa Eldridge lipsticks do you like?
I like max factor toasted almond. I used to like Charlotte Tilbury Bitch Perfect, but I've gone off it a bit.

House of colour rust lipstick is great for Autumns. Think its number 5.

weareallcats · 03/09/2024 13:01

You won’t believe this, but I was just in Space NK in Leamington and Lisa Eldridge was actually there! She matched me to one of her lipsticks called Painterly. So random. Apparently she’s in once a month and I happened to catch her.

Omg you lucky thing! I would majorly fan girl crush on her and prob get very giddy and silly if I to talk to her.

TheOGCCL · 03/09/2024 22:26

The Fatface jacket looks very Summer to me, it just doesn't have a warm undertone. I find that with Fatface generally, their clothes almost all lean cool.

Have you looked at Kettlewell? Not cheap but their range of colours is great, you can select your season, and they do biker jackets.

Otherwise this is a good season for Autumns, there's lots of warm greens and browns around.

Do you live in Leamington? I'm not far from there. I'm a Soft Autumn too. I used to style my 2 friends who were a similar colouring to me, they used to call me the style police! Eventually they saw what I was trying to say and ditched the unflattering cool colours. Autumn is difficult as they are not especially fashionable colours, but wow when you get it right, it can look amazing! Feel free to pm me if you fancy an afternoon shopping in Leamington with your new colours, it's one of my favourite things to do.😁

I didn’t read the replies until after I got back - I’m ashamed to say I’d only vaguely heard of her. She was really sweet and said I had lovely skin (which was a bit of a stretch as I was a bit red and clammy from racing about town in the rain).

I’ve only seen the colour online, but I do have a lot of those kinds of muted teal greens in my report - I think it is because it is soft autumn and crosses over a bit with summer maybe? I can’t get it anyway - totally sold out!

Don't forget soft autumn is the coolest and dustiest of the autumns. Forget all oranges, limes, yellows. There will be a lot of cross over with soft summers. Your colours will be blended, dusty, washed out as if you were looking at an autumn day through mist or drizzle. Nothing harsh bright or electric, even if in autumn colours.
Your best colours will be khakis, mauves, greige, dirty pink, brick.

PrincessFluffyPants · 03/09/2024 23:05

@weareallcats M&S have the Fatface jacket online in every size except 16.

paristotokyo · 03/09/2024 23:05

I'm pretty sure I'm a soft autumn, they're the colours I like the most. Interested to know where you had your colours done?

Cantonet · 03/09/2024 23:11

I'm a soft autumn but also overlap a lot with soft summer. It has an underlying warmth to it unlike soft summer which is cooler. Most of this season's in colours are autumnal like olives/khakis, browns/tans, soft suede & brown leather, Burgundy/maroon. Think of the colours of autumnal leaves - lots of browns, russets, orange colours there.
The soft denotes more gentle versions of these colours, so less of a contrast . So no bright or fluorescent versions of these colours. Autumnal colouring is that of low contrast between the skin & hair/eyes. I find Mac good for lipsticks - Runway Hit is a really good colour but can be drying.

mellowfell · 03/09/2024 23:17

Sorry to derail but how did you get diagnosed :)

She does an individual palette, so I don’t have every soft autumn colour - I think I might have a couple of the warmer leaning soft summer colours too. I have NO blues at all, which is a bit distressing as I’ve relied a lot on blue over the years! But lots of green, pink, burgundy, brown, soft golds, a couple of purples (one of which I’m wearing today and it’s making my eyes look very green!) and one warm grey! I do also have a very soft orangery colour, but can’t imagine I’ll ever wear that one (or find it anywhere). I’ve been told rose gold for jewellery (and gold, silver ok away from face - thankful as beloved watch is silver).

I did the online one, which I know not everyone feels is accurate, but she is clearly able to work from photos - her instagram is fab.

OP, thank you. I'm going to ask for this as my Christmas (sorry, sorry!) present as I've been dying to get mine done.

I honestly don't know what I'll do if I'm told black isn't my colour, though...

YouG0GlenCoco · 04/09/2024 11:02

I've had analysis done by a different stylist, but she has a Facebook group which anyone can join, you don't need to have used her services. It's called Style Me Happy, it might be worth joining to ask season related questions and see photos of other people's outfits. I'm a cool summer and love searching the group for others to get some inspiration!

Sorry to go on and on, but those of you who are thinking about doing it - go for it! I’ve got a couple of new bits in my new colours and I can see a huge difference - my eyes look much greener (they are ‘hazel’, but often look quite a muddy colour) and it is also bringing out the subtle red in my hair. My skin also looks more golden - I am very fair skinned and just thought I was destined to always look really pale!

I tried on two jumpers earlier - one was a dusky lilac, which I thought might be ok, but was too cool when I checked it against my swatches in the fitting room - the other was a burgundy that I would have previously dismissed as too warm, but matched up with ‘muted red’ from my palette. I looked awful in the purple - really grey and tired - and then my face lit up when I switched to the red.

I never thought I was a warm season - always assumed cool, as I am so fair skinned - I was obviously very wrong. The colours I was wearing were completely zapping all the colour out of my hair, eyes and skin. I now have a lot of blue clothes that I know I look shit in 🙄😬.
